Remember when the four years between cO and blonde felt like torture

never listened to blonde when it came out or much at all for that matter

up until last year i've found myself playing this record A LOT

it's come at such a special time in my life and i've really grown with it

the sounds feel so reassuring, so carefree, it really feels like a warm hug from that friend you're always happy to see

i can't wait to keep growing with this record and excited for what frank releases next

glad you enjoyed blonde but you'd better get comfortable with it because there is a high chance this man is not releasing music ever again and im not joking lmfao. bro is retired or at the very least on indefinite hiatus some niggas just cant accept that. either way it's understandable what w his brother dying and his entire rollout getting f***ed up by the pandemic on top of who knows what else, dude is very private obviously

But for now I’ve definitely stopped anticipating anything. I really held out hope until Coachella… it was lovely to get those leaks last year though just to hear him do something new

“Feelings Gone” is a great track, “Still Mine” is so gritty and cool, “Changes” is wonderful, “These Days” is nice too… the full “Spaceman” is a really cool piece of music though all those key changes and sublime guitar work from the legendary Spaceman himself…

Nice thing about waiting on Frank though is you know he’ll only do something again if he feels like it’s truly inspired/worth adding to his legacy and even though it’s annoying when he pops back up to sell Blonde merch again at least he’s not milking us with s***ty new music

Frank dropped Blonde on a Saturday and then 5 days later that Thursday I saw my username/avi play a 4 hour concert in New Jersey where he didn’t leave the stage until midnight and brought out Tom Morello for a few songs too

Needless to say it was probably the best musical week of my entire life and I’m beyond grateful for it

you're real for appreciating all the leaks, so many idiots talking s*** on em in reality they're all cool. i'll never understand the still mine hate in particular, that song goes even if im not that fond of it reusing mine (it sounds cool i just would've rather heard something new)

If anything the Coachella performances were a fascinating look into his process— him doing those alternate versions of White Ferrari and Solo, versions that he actually recorded at one point for Blonde, were revelatory insights into his process for me. The leaks are leaks— not finished songs of course— so it’s cool to hear some works in progress/abandoned ideas from him.

Still Mine is really a fascinating track— that vocal filter is crazy and the whole stream of conscious verse from multiple POVs (“feel the kick on my b**** stomach”) and even referencing Leonardo DiCaprio (“Leo got a T rexxxxx head in his foyer I don’t even got a foyer”) just a wild little bit of writing from him

He tweeted about Leo’s TRex head in 2012 or something I remember lol. I wonder if Frank and Leo are friends— I saw a pic of Leo and Taco recently

idk Frank has always struck me as an artist who could still remain active over multiple decades. Think the lessened expectation that comes with age would suit Frank, would absolutely continue putting out gems in that sort of mode/rhythm

And you're right about the quality control...I think despite the events at Coachella it felt he was gearing up to drop soon-ish last year but looks like he's pulled away from the idea to drop right now. Felt similar to 2019 and we only found out years later that he was in fact on the brink of a return

that period last yr when he was super active on IG/dropping sound bites after Coachella felt like he was testing the water then suddenly retreated from that lool

Which made me think it wasn’t deliberation or anything fluid, but that he did a mini active-era roll out to drum up anticipation for the merch and then he left the minute the things went live on the site

At this point I’ll be shocked if it’s before the 10th anniversary of Blonde

Like you never know what might end up being the final album for anyone. Frank has probably realized his wealth and profile allow him opportunities to explore so many elements of life that even most successful musicians don’t have the luxury to explore. Like I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a photo of Frank like graduating from some university next year with a masters in Civil Engineering or something you know? He’s not like one of those musicians who only lives for the creation and performance of music and I think his music ultimately really benefits from that.

Who knows. The next record could open up a well of inspiration that leads to a couple more in a short time frame… it could be an album next year and then silence until 2040… it could be silent forever…

To quote (paraphrase) the guy in my avi… “the best albums aren’t made, they are discovered”. One day you look up from what you’re creating and realize you’ve said all that you really want to at that moment and you ALSO feel genuinely inspired to share it with other people…

And frank hasn’t been in that spot in 8 years. I’m sure he will again
