i say all that to say the only real fair judge of frank as an artist and celebrity will be from the reception to his next full length. he’s conditioned his fans to not even expect singles from him anymore. and a lot of his choices for singles are less of a “this is a song i want to use to push my career as a mainstream artist forward” and are more of a “this is a snapshot of how i’m feeling at the present moment” and they often purposely don’t have the sticky chorus or a reliable structure.

Frank about to killed for his next album no matter what it is. The people who might genuinely dislike what he’s been doing recently are being vocal and the easily swayed niggas that never have their own opinions are in the cut about to follow along when the time comes. I can already see it happening.

only solution to avoid all criticism is to wait 14 years to drop like D'Angelo lmao

This is ridiculous. If you’re going to come at Frank it has to be better than “the internet and critics convinced us” like the the guy wasn’t co-sign by Ye, Hov & Beyoncé.

He’s an artists artist. One of the most influential and sought after musicians in the industry, this isn’t a game about popularity or sales with him. The guy is respected amongst the highest tier of musicians.

His albums are fairly critiqued, CO & Blonde have an average of 92 & 87. That’s not “overrated” by any means. You do know that’s what overrated means, correct? If anything, the amount of influence Blonde has had on music in the last couple of years, I’m sure a lot of publications wish they’d gone back and given it a higher rate.

Y’all rating him incredibly high YOURSELVES what the f***. The guy literally drops Endless & Blonde then goes on Blonded Radio and drops Chanel, Biking, Lens, Provider & Moon River!

Bro dropped 2 songs y’all didn’t like in 3 years and you wanna begin this narrative of him falling off and being overrated

Granted I wasn’t a huge fan of them either but let’s be somewhat realistic and open minded. Bunch of drama queens on here..

  • Blonde is an instant classic and no one can take that away from him. His fanbase is clearly cancerous as they would defend him even if he done some American Psycho s*** and follow his brother on twitter and whats worse is the vinyl situation. They are in an abusive relationship with frank but doesn't see it. The issue with Frank isn't that he doesn't say anything but because he views his fans as a cash stream basically. He kinda wanted to retire after Channel Orange but didn't. So he continues to slowly make music and scrap stuff whenever he wants and is a perfectionist so doesn't mesh well with the vinyl releases.

    "I ain't on your schedule"
    "I ain't on no schedule"
    "I ain't had me a job since 2009"
"I ain't on no sales floor"

And idk anyone who liked the album in real life and I can find people that dislike it on the internet

Plenty of people irl pretend to love Blonde cause they want to be perceived as musically cultured, even though they barely listen to it

Like if you were to ask them what their 5 favorite songs on that album are, they wouldn't be able to give you a full answer cause they've only heard Nights & Nikes.

The number of people that truly love the album or listen to it regularly is much lower than ktt thinks

It doesn't matter if he drops utter trash. He drops music so rarely that critics and fans will call it the greatest thing ever created.

In a lot of reviews for Blonde, critics admitted they had no idea what he was talking about on most songs or what the entire album was about but they still gave it glowing reviews simply because it was a new Frank Ocean album.

  • Apr 23, 2020

I still think he's very overrated. Everything he does to make himself unavailable to the public adds to his mystique and so people call anything he does great because they don't know when he'll resurface again.

  • 16g

he plagiarized nothing but the whole vinyl situation makes me really f***ing dissapointed in him or the team that represents him

  • Blonde and the Apple Music singles are classic. However this new era has had some misses (dear April & dhl). Frank is a terrible person and slimy business man though.

The last 7 pitchfork reviews of Frank have been mild, they're not overly praising him. He hasn't gotten BNM since Chanel which was 3 years ago. His last 2 tracks have gotten a lot of negative reaction from fans online.

& where are these so called reviews where critics claim they don't know what he's talking about? apart from seigfried, nothing on the album is too extensive or obscure dude

False. Blonde got a 9.0 on Pitchfork.

None of these songs might have gotten Best New Track, but they all got glowing reviews.

I can promise you, it doesn't matter what album Frank drops next. Doesn't matter how basic or how trash it is. It'll get glowing reviews. Even it's even remotely decent, it's getting a 9/10 easily. Pitchfork always has artists they give glowing reviews to, regardless of what they put out. Simple examples are Kendrick and Beyoncè. Doesn't matter what either of those two drop. It's getting a glowing review. Kanye used to get the same treatment as well until be became a Trump-loving a******, then they backed off. Meanwhile, other artists will drop way better projects and maybe the most they'll get will be a 6 or 7 over 10. Examples that come to my head. The new Dua Lipa album. Janelle Monaè's last album. I could go on and on.
