I've always been confused by radio programming, like they've been ignoring 90% of popular music even before Ye called attention to it w these tweets

they have to play the safest music possible, that's why The Chainsmokers seemed hotter than Beyoncé in 2016. If a song is slightly weird, they'd risk losing part of the audience.

@Jim_Halpert_ has constantly said the field doesn't encourage event level s*** anymore.

Can't blame niggas like Daft Punk for seeing the forest from the trees lol.

You are supposed to be in your room constantly scrolling to the next album to consume

Not discussing event level s*** with the boys for months.

didn't this GIF come out way before blonde?

You’re probably thinking of the BTS picture of the model - Vasilisa Forbes. That was posted half a year before Nikes. The GIF was from the digital BDC and was leaked about 9 days before.

I really do get this take and empathize fully with frank but also we gotta talk about how you eventually move on with grief too. your life grows around it it just never goes away. frank is by all accounts living his life and happy and we have to kinda accept he's not stuck in eternal endless grief and bring it up everytime we talk about him. hes sold cock rings and merch and posted himself all over the world he's living his life too! he's not just his grief or loss either

empathize with frank just to post assumptions of what I think frank ocean should be feeling like because clearly grief is only defined by one way and there is never any nuance to how one processes it so let me mention things like the Homer brand (which Frank said his priorities have shifted to making sure his family is well off…no relation to his bro tho) and also bypass things like the infamous Coachella performance (where frank gave an emotional speech about his brother and what coachella meant to them both…no relation to his bro tho)

I literally said the week that accident happened that Frank’s probably never making another album again.

that's true, but it hasn't been that long tbh

i wouldn't be surprised if the act of making music or reflecting on it hits a sensitive spot for him, I assume a lot of his creative process included showing things to his brother

I’ve always just been in awe the lack of humanity that has come in how fans (both famous and non famous) have been when it comes to frank ocean lol.

  • nobody knows fs how or wat he feels atp

the best that can be done is fully appreciating wats out, not feeling entitled to demanding more and being grateful for watever else he may share w the world. critique his business practices all u want, but the pace of artistry~person/people behind it is where empathy s needed

all these speculative statements one way or another bout what he got goin on are just presumptuous/in bad taste

nothing I said negates anything you just said like what are you even arguing? the point is both of these things happen parallel to each other. you make money, laugh, have fun, explore creative outlets and live life and still grieve through it all. frank was cracking jokes at the same coachella set he was dedicating to ryan. by forcing any mention of him to be defined by his grief reduces him to a shell. anytime someone says "damn I wish he'd drop I miss him" we don't have to do this empathy policing stuff about Ryan. really, it's none of our damn business if we're being completely honest we all know and emphasize with his loss and can do that and still want music. Frank himself announced he was back focused on an album in the Blonde reissue liner notes a couple years ago, and he's posted pics of himself in studios

Idk, Blonde feels like the last album that really touched people from all walks of life. No matter who were or where you were from, you knew Frank Ocean was a great artist and that Blonde was beautiful music. No one, and I mean no one is making art on that level right now, where it touches people who may not fully understand what their listening too, but said music their listening too gives them the belief a different point of view is possible.

We were really spoiled with landmark albums that year. Blonde, Endless, Anti, Lemonade, Views, Solange, Radiohead, Kanye, A Tribe, etc
