you can only escalate a situation to deadly force if you reasonably believe it is immediately necessary to protect yourself against someone else's use of unlawful deadly force
no one was going to murder him at that track meet. was he getting bullied and pushed? sure. Metcalf was deserving of some hands and feet at the most. kid did a very very dumb thing man s*** is just crazy. should've just walked away if he felt like he couldn't handle the situation with his hands or went and got one or two of his boys. he seemed to be the only one with murder on is mind

Exactly. When the jury deliberates it doesn’t matter how Karmelo felt about the situation or if he felt his life is in danger , they base the ruling on if it was a reasonable person, how would that reasonable person respond.
And almost everyone in this thread agrees a reasonable person would either run away or throw hands
What’s funny is people in this thread saying he should have got way less , people got way less for worst crimes..
Well maybe Karmelo should have taken the plea deal instead of going the self defense route , he could have got 10-20 years

forreal. kid couldn't live with his L in that moment what it seems like to me, he was being out cast and chumped and he unreasonably retaliated. i just hate the rhetoric that most black people are eating a full plate of right now, like i slight understand but this ain't the one right here. Yea a lot of white people or other races have gotten off for similar situations and that being fact almost makes me want to feel the same way that he should've gotten off as well but I just can't my better judgement and sense just won't allow it. What i don't agree with is the sentencing of 35 years because he's still a child in my eyes but i also can't tell mfs how to punish someone for literal murder

🎯. Actually tho, what other cases have people gotten away with way less? I haven’t heard of similar cases
maybe Trayvon martin ? Austin had 0 weapons on him.
And if this was the other way around and Austin got let’s say , 5-10yrs I’m pretty sure the black community would be outraged and say he should get 20/yrs plus or even life… let’s be real so maybe 35 is justified
I don’t understand how they went with claiming it was self defense but then also said it’s possible he could’ve stabbed himself AND that the defendant is sorry for what he did. That’s like 3 different defenses
austin was violent first, karmelo didn’t know where austin was gonna take it from there. stand your ground is tricky because you don’t know exactly how “proportionate” the response is to being attacked in the heat of the moment.
again, karmelo ain’t no saint, he should have used better emotional intelligence and just walked away, but we’ve all seen people get way less for as bad crimes
prosecution argued that karmello goaded austin when saying: '"Touch me and see what happens" / "Touch me and find out" while gripping something in his backpack
multiple witnesses testified austin replied with "I'm not going to fight you at a track meet, dude" also
Wow so in Texas all someone has to do is try to punch you and you can kill them?
Edit: I read the story , they were trying to rob him and the attackers had weapons
makes sense
genuinely a case by case basis. unfortunately they did not side with him on this one. kinda funny that california had a better self defense case than texas, really highlights the racial aspect.
I mean you really shouldn’t be putting your hands on anyone to begin with tbh & generally, if you’re swinging on somebody that pretty much confirms you have bad intentions.
The average person isn’t gonna wait to find out how far you’re gonna take their ass whooping to assess if you need a bullet in your ass.
Some people run. Some people fight. Some people will blow you down.
!
I can't believe people really trying to turn him into a martyr. Kid f***ed up and murdered someone. He isn't a hero.
Martyrdom shouldn't be the goal. He should be an example of biased judicial proceedings.
Yall keep comparing actual cases of injustice to this shii when they dont even match at all ...
and it seems like sum of yall dont even understand how those cases used "stand your ground" in their favor
wasn’t this confirmed to be AI tho?

and that’s why your baby boy 6 feet under not breathing no more
Don’t know any of these details but can’t really think of a reason any kid would reasonably stab another
Like just punch him bro
I think its real
If it’s real he would have had to do a pretty sharp turn toward the right rather quickly, as he’s been condemning racists trying to weaponize this case since the beginning and demanding his sons photo be removed from far right websites
I doubt it’s real
Reminder in 2025 Metcalf father forgave Anthony wanted to work together with his family so Karmelo didnt get a long sentence, trashed on all the racist right wingers tryna link themselves with him,
Karmelo Pops response: was to help raise 600k for the case than he talks to Charleston White who goes on video calling his sons racist bullies and how Anthony should of killed both of them
Even after that he still tried to talk to Anthony pops he trespassed a rally he held and refused to leave until they could have a talk and got arrested instead
Fast forward a year later this case really rotted his soul out
