That's not what this is, not only are the PS no longer hegemonic in the Left but the Left doesn't have a majority in the parliement (although they're the biggest group).

thats what I'm saying, macron should appoint melenchon as PM and allow the NFP to form a minority government until a new election can be held. a coalition government is out of the question.

He saw the way his party got trounced in the EU elections and called a snap election like an idiot as a referendum

In a sense it was the democratic thing to do but politically it was dumb as s*** especially bc he didn’t warn anyone

He wanted to give the far right power now so that people would sour on them once in government and the centrists would win in 2027. Of course that was based on the assumption that the election would be a two horse between his camp and the RN, but that plan was wrecked by the formation of the NFP.

I believe that he was already already pretty deadlocked in terms of what he could do as his party already didn't have majority in parliament. So instead he Wanted a statement defeat for the far right (as he knew the parties would coalesce to defeat far right) and was prob hoping to be the ones left as biggest and not this leftwing alliance.
