such a cheap and easy thing to meet up and do

true, but things like that can only go so far. You'd need at least a little bit of budget to do something cause nothing aint free out here unfortunately

eh all those online ones you gotta take with a grain of salt. You would really want to meet with someone who can assess properly then you can get the diagnosis and a ton of support through government/community

autism is a very complex thing that is completely different for every person who has it too, so who knows.

unfortunately getting diagnosed as an adult instead of through child find can be tricky, time consuming, and complicated to get started. but can Definity be worth it. I know a person nearing 40 trying to get tested but insurance can be a big hangup depending on your state (Idk about ny)

edit I just saw the link name and put together what it says. id tread lightly with that

noted, thanks a lot man seriously

OP if you don’t have any kids, you’re fine. Just get some f***ing confidence. Everybody resorts to the “I have autism” excuse when they depressed and life not going they way.

Get off ya ass and get to work.

You can always chill with friends at a park or walk around and people watch. Its getting cold out now, but checking out the xmas markets while having a beverage is a good budget friendly activity.

literally did this with a friend recently and they expected me to pay for things knowing i had no money

    that’s why i isolate honestly

Are there any good social programs that can help you gain some more skillsets that are in demand?

    Like an employment hub?

In no way was I tryna downplay autism. I’m just saying it’s not an excuse for what you’re going through. I’m sorry to hear that about your family, but I personally know people with autism that have found their own road to functioning in this world they brought on success in their careers.

Just saying man don’t let diagnoses define you, you can overcome it

at 25 (2020) I was also unemployed (for like the umpteenth time), COVID money all went to a new car, so I was broke, then by 26 I was fired from the job I had returned to. Whole family had pretty much lost hope for me by this point lmao (I was the very definition of a NEET).

But in that moment I had a mental awakening. I actually went straight to a temp agency that same day and set my self up with a factory job (despite hating the idea of working in a factory) starting the following Monday. I will admit, I told them specifically I've heard about the horrors of factory work, I don't want some hard, boring, back breaking s***, and they were like "We got you " and put me in a pretty chill assembly position. (I actually got to mess with a cutie with a booty there but she was crazy )

Shortly after, I decided I was gonna go back to school for the 4TH TIME that Fall, studying IT.

The strangest thing is that the factory job that I was dreading so much actually became one of my most memorable and fun jobs I've ever had. So much so that the Manager of Production was tearing up when I put in my two week notice to start a new IT job with a (swindling ass) managed service provider.

Fast forward to last December, I get myself fired from there (lol, it was a tactical move, trust me, got unemployment, plus the boss was a horrible scam artist that wasn't letting me learn anything)

Now, I'm working in the chillest job I've had YET as an IT Support Specialist at a small company. And trust me, I'm not letting this one go. The amount of knowledge and experience I've learned from this job has certified me as an IT professional, I don't just have my 'foot in the door', I've got my whole body through it, and I'm standing at the entrance. And in a few weeks, they'll be paying for me to study and attain AWS certifications.
And after that, they're talking about expanding my responsibilities and giving me a manager position.

By no means have "I made it" yet (between you and me, I'm probably like 1 or 2 good f*** ups from being right back at square one), but seeing the 'fruits' of my labor start to sprout right before my eyes (something I didn't even believe in at first) has made me determined to keep it pushing no matter what.

I heard this classic Nipsey quote not too long ago and thought it was something that many of us could relate to:

"That's why I called my thing The Marathon
Because I, I'm not gon' lie and portray
Um, this ultimate poise, like I been had it figured out

    Nah, I just didn't quit
    That's the only distinguishing quality

From me and probably whoever else is goin' through this
Or went through this, or is gonna go through this
    Is that I ain't quit

    I went through every emotion

I went through every emotion with tryna pursue what I'm doing
    You know what I mean?

And I think that what, what's gon' separate
Whoever's gon' try to go for something

Is that you ain't gon' quit"

That's not a fairy tale, that's real. And it applies to any kind of adversity you can think of. Find your skill that you enjoy, find out how it makes money (whether from entrepreneurship or if it's a specialized blue collar field), study it, and run with it, no matter what. Even if they tell you that you suck ass, even if you're not the best student in the class, don't ever quit.

And guess what, employers respect the F*** out of people that are looking for a full time gig while taking classes, yes that means probably online or night classes, but those classes are easier anyway.

the people that you know with Autism, did they pull themselves up by the bootstraps or did they have support around them

because i have none, everyone around me in my real life downplays it so im not really making an excuse

Honestly one is an immigrant from a south Asian country and she just found her niche in life. Went to a great university, family didn’t really support her because they don’t believe in her “issues” but she brushed it off and loves what she majored in. Eventually ended up working for a great company and has been chosen to speak on panels multiple times now.

That’s one example but man I’m telling you just find what YOU want to do in life and the rest will follow
