Also lotta other acts was coming up or steaming hot
He even had a ft back then with Kanye iirc
Was a transition from that backpack/conscious/real rap into the trap dominating era that started in 2015, which he was undoubtedly the face of
So maybe this switch from the blogs to the social media(Vine) being the "judges" of the music also helped this alot(Fetty Wap, RHQ, OG Maco...)
The change of tastemakers really did propel Future to the top. I never really thought about that actually. People seem to forget about the good footing he already had with Pluto and moments like Loveeee Song, which I now realize is because they weren’t experiencing it live before that shift. People were familiar with the new wave of trap music but not all the way tuned in yet. Because of that, people mark the misstep of Honest as the beginning of his career, but it was only the beginning of him speedrunning classics and becoming the best rapper alive
Future was slept on when honest dropped. crazy how it’s his best studio album and nobody talks about it
honest is pretty good but monster is really when future found his footing and became truly great
He wasn't underrated dafuq? P4k just didn't review it, who really cares. For instance, Honest and Pluto got a lot of press hype. Tony Montana, Turn on the Lights, Move that Dope and I Won were hits
I remember that
Yeah I always say how his recovery after honest is crazy given the context. monster really had very little buzz or attention from bigger outlets after honest kinda flopped. Day 1 monster listeners off datpiff represent
Ehhhhh he was the underdog after Honest flopped mildly, still had some good street singles. I’d say “over him” is just a bit of a stretch. Rap culture is very unforgiving and Monster wouldn’t have popped the way it did if Honest was as irredeemable as it’s made out to be
Honest had move that dope, I won, never satisfied, whatchutola, look ahead, and blood sweat tears! No album with those songs is a flop! Stop capping

I’m not saying that as my personal opinion. I like the songs you said + the title track, but Honest did catch flack on release. I wasn’t using flop as a quality metric, a lot of people were disappointed he “went pop”
This is bs.
F*** what P4k thought lol. Future was not slept on in 2014 my nigga, tf.
they didn’t review him because of misogyny or some dumb s***
everyone was talking about monster when it dropped

misogyny
what’s next?
can’t review Schindler’s List, it shows violent racism

I do think Monster was a “you niggas thought it was over” moment tbh
Like his career wasnt over but people had him on the clock before Monster
real music prevailed

Oh for sure. With Honest’s questionable reception and losing Ciara (seen as a huge L at the time, their relationship was a big part of his public identity) his back was against the wall, I won’t argue with that
We are better off without their reviews. Those out of touch clowns gave Save Me a 6.4 smfh

Facts. Not 100% sure but I think Honest got BNM and the joint Future did with Andre on that album definitely got best new song. They rewriting history ITT 😂
