Still the best show on TV IMO.
Succession is close tho.
As is Better Call Saul.
And Smiling Friends.
REAL for smiling friends love
Season just gets better and better
Lack of subtlety aside, I think it's noteworthy that Glover and co. were able to put an episode out like this knowing that a substantial part of their audience is white. I respect it, it's not everyday a must-see TV show everyone is talking about does a damn reparations episode lmao. Even then, there's still many people out there who need the realities of slavery literally spoon-fed to them.
While I like that the show defines itself and can be whatever it wants week to week, I do hope the rest of the season focuses on the group in Europe.
This is gonna be the ep where the niggas that want this show to follow the Dave formula are gonna be like "ok Im done with this show"
On point
I feel like I’ve laughed a decent amount this season
I’ve been laughing Hellas. So much subtle humor
Yeah there’s a lot of ideas that I feel like stem from Twitter and make it on the big screen. But I feel like this topic woulda been better executed on random acts of flyness. Idk if anybody seen that show but it addresses a lot of black topics but not in a “social media” way. It’s one of them shows that I’m not sure how I got green lit by the bosses. Amazing show
Random Acts did a reparations sketch. Terence Nance was Steve Jobs and made an app that identifies who owes you money
This show is literally live action boondocks at this point
Episode 4 seems like a white mans nightmare
i feel like they were mainly tackling the fallacy of "allyship" and using Marshall illustrate that. You can quickly assume he was a fairly liberal guy just off the NPR pod in the opening seconds
He was even on black people's side in the elevator when he was talking to his co-worker but as soon as he was confronted with the actual cost of being an ally he folded.
He asked Lester for advice and as soon as he was told something he didn't want to hear he just resorted back to his white friends
I do think having the guy from Ep 1 come back and explain the "Plight of Black People" is kinda hacky on it's surface but him offing himself contextualize it a bit for me.
He was finally able to understand the fundamental lie that he's been raised to believe about whiteness and understood the power that losing his privileges gives Black People but the actual weight of that was too much to bear.
something, something white fragility
It'll be interesting to revisit the convo on these anthology episodes after the season because I do think there is something deeper going on there.

Episode 4 seems like a white mans nightmare
Good comparison
This show is literally live action boondocks at this point
Episode 4 seems like a white mans nightmare
With some Twin Peaks
Y’all like paper boy ?
Best character and it’s not close. The others are good but Darius is too floaty to be relatable and Earn is kind of a d***
how? they’re polar opposites to me
Gained popularity in a similar way w/ going viral off of shooting somebody. Have both also had moments where their words are misinterpreted by others like in the commercial episode
This show is literally live action boondocks at this point
Episode 4 seems like a white mans nightmare
That’s what it’s always been. You could see the influence with the absurdity
Sometimes you have to put the blame on the show tho bro. If not anyone can use that excuse and be like “oh y’all saying it’s wack just because you don’t get it and had false expectations”
I guess the real question is when is blame placed on the consumer and when is it placed on the creator?
The show is the show, my guy. It's exactly what it's intending to be.
I personally don't look at art like this with the expectation that it has to entertain me, even though it just so happens that this show in particular does. It is what it is though, and it's up to me to take from it what I will. If I take nothing from it that's okay too. There's no one to blame. The creator doesn't owe me anything but it's true authentic expression.
This way of approaching it is precisely why I can appreciate the show so much, and am able to catch deeper layers to the jokes and dialogue that sometimes seem nonsensical and/or not in line with ''the narrative'' to some. People have this own narrative in their head and just want to see it confirmed and validated. Then when that doesn't happen they feel like there's something wrong with the show lmao, it's not the show, dawg, it's you(not you specifically bro)

It all starts with trying to understand the reality that is put in front of you, rather than getting lost in whatever you're making up in your head
It all starts with trying to understand the reality that is put in front of you, rather than getting lost in whatever you're making up in your head
I'm glad you're reemphasizing that point about what's in your head
Applicable to all kinds of creative endeavors and a lot of life in general
That’s what it’s always been. You could see the influence with the absurdity
I know but at this point its so close and spot on lol
Its also very possible the reason the show was off for so long, multiple episodes with no regulars, next season being the last is the stars have out grown the tv schedule. That is the more logical reasoning, rather than this was the original plan.
This happened to one of my favorite shows Party Down, literally after the first season multiple actors popped and the cast schedules didnt work
