2 episodes in and it’s already better than season 3. This is the ATLANTA I’ve been craving for years…
The first episode was hilarious. I don’t have much to say about it other than the main theme clearly seemed to be the characters being haunted. Al by a dead rapper, Earn and Van by their exes, and Darius by the wheelchair lady. I assume this represents the season being about everyone confronting their pasts. But who tf knows with this show? I was off as hell in my prediction of season 3 based on the first episode lol
When Al was at the funeral, I was also thinking the show may have been foreshadowing his eventual death at the end but I feel like that would be too cliche
Overall, the episode was funny as hell and I died at this exchange:
“So you’re just gonna leave me here to end up like all your exes?!”
“No, I would never let you become one of them… You believe me, don’t you?”
Dope review. Except the typo lol
Just use two upper slashes before and after your spoiler || <-
<- according to one of the review articles, Uncle Willy comes back in episode 4 and it’s supposed to be a flashback episode exploring Earn and Al’s family. If we get any explanation on it, it’ll most likely be in this episode. Or they might drop it entirely but I really hope they don’t ->

Appreciate it
I feel like the response to Earn’s actions by the characters and the audience is an example of how people tend to downplay the impact that “casual” racism can have. The show has constantly addressed how dismissive white people can be about these situations but this episode shows how Black people (like Al, Darius and a lot of the audience) can do that kind of thing as well by writing off Earn’s anger as simple pettiness. We often feel inclined to downplay the little offenses bc it’s not as bad or dramatic as the big offenses.
Being racially profiled when you’re out in public with your family isn’t as bad as being gunned down by the police, for instance. So it’s easier for people (again, including black folks) to downplay the former as just a slight everyday inconvenience instead of something that can be extremely traumatizing.
It was traumatizing to Earn, whose life was ruined at one point because of that same type of racism. And it may have even been traumatizing to poor Lottie. We don’t see her but that little girl had to witness her father being harassed for no discernible reason and her mother breaking down in tears at the distress of it.
And it’s made worse with the knowledge that Lisa pulled that stunt with every black person she encountered. But she got her comeuppance bc she ended up f***ing with a black person like Earn who - unlike most other black people - had the money and resources to actually get back at her.
Earn is truly living every black person’s fantasy, making racist cacs cry and ensuring that black people get paid in the process. I’m so proud of his development. I wanna be that nigga when I grow up fr
Nah, I was going to say Earn a sicko for actively trying to ruin this woman's life and to put so much means and effort into it, it's how I felt watching the ending for sure, but

but nah you preaching right here ^
But, at the same time he's still a sick nigga for that lmao. Both can be true, for sure. The casual 'I should go back to therapy' just tops both angles off too. Yeah, he should seek help for this behaviour, and yes, the prior racial situations contributed to him even manifesting this behaviour. S***'s not right, but he is also not wrong. God, this is so well written.
I mean, yeah, you could make sense of it that way. But it's also completely plausible that this part of Earn's backstory was not even actually written at that time. They could've literally just written that part of his back story way later, than the Tracy situation.
True, writers make up stuff on the fly all of the time. But even those things can make the story better and ultimately it’s up to us to interpret it. Those situations were way too similar for me not to think it played a factor into why Earn loses his mind so much in that particular moment. I wanna go back and rewatch the ep
Even outside of that one scene tho, everything about Earn’s character in previous seasons makes so much more sense now with the reveal of his background. And he was already a great character to begin with
Dope review. Except the typo lol
Lol thanks, did I f*** up the dialogue? I was just going off memory but that’s my Top 1 Earn/Van moment now
edit: aye I found it
Almost done with S3
I can see why people don’t like it as much but I love it. I love the storytelling and the cinematography so much.
Almost done with it, can’t wait to watch the new episodes

Yeah, his specific method of going about it - broadcasting her pain to a bunch of strangers - was odd. If I were him, I would have wanted the satisfaction of seeing the woman face to face and having her know I was lowkey responsible for the whole thing lol. Then she would have at least learned something
He should def go back to therapy tho which I said before but I don’t think what he did is as f***ed up as it’s stated to be. The more I think about the episode, the more brilliant it is. I love this show so much

Is this your first S3 watch?
Hard disagree
If the show had made a devoted effort to frame Earn as the centerpiece in each and every single episode of the show like they did here, he def could have been on Tony’s level as one of the all-time great tv protagonists. But that wasn’t nor isn’t the route they wanted to take
Keyword: could but they didn't. So them lazily trying to draw any parallels would be unearned. No pun intended.
Man this was a great start to the season. This is the Atlanta I wanted. Sucks that this is the last season
Is this your first S3 watch?
Yeah, I watched S1 when it first aired but this past week I’ve been catching up.
“Three Slaps” was f***ing insanity, I posted my thoughts on it a few pages ago or so.
I’m on “Trini 2 De Bone” now. The subtle messages in these side episodes are exceptional

Feel like he could easily change his mind on that, remember when he said 3.15.20 would be the last Gambino album lol

Seems like it's pretty set in stone and they're advertising this as the last season heavily everywhere. The whole cast are super busy actors now too so that's probably why it's coming to an end

They are advertising this as the final season. Maybe a few years down the line but this seems to be the end

Real af. Season 3 has great writing and it's gorgeous af
What are your top 3 episodes from season 3 ?

O you still have a few episodes to go nevermind lol

“Three Slaps” is my favorite because of the ending. I like how they retold a true story. Beautiful s*** and the messaging was top f***ing notch. I haven’t seen anything like it before.
“The Big Payback” was hilariously depressing. It’s crazy because I can actually see something like that happening. It was like a mini Black Mirror episode. F***ing loved it.
Those are my two favorite of this season (so far.) I’m not too invested in this Europe plot but it has had it ups and downs, really liked the gambling scene with Al and that old mf got so upset that he went and hid in his room
And when Al started to cut down the tree
It’s been my least favorite season but I think it gets a bit too much hate
I’m enjoying it.
The rapper in the first episode reminded me of what Gambino tried to do with his last album. He went the mysterious route with no names, cover art, or promo and no one really listened or tapped into it.
