The only video about drake that could actually make you think twice as a fan. Honestly i get it, he influenced some of the worst we get today not just music, but the business. And it’s why he truly is a Jay-z disciple. He’s like oppenheimer. His science used for the worst

Tbf his daughters have been giving us some generational r&b music over the last ten years and it’s still going strong

Drake is hiphop. Drake is also a***ogous to Madonna. One does not cancel out the other just cause niggas wanna emasculate Drake and strip him of his blackness by making underhanded comparisons to white female popstars and claiming he isn’t a part of hiphop

Same way y’all say people strip him of his blackness yall strip him of his whiteness lowkey

He ain’t full black and it’s okay to acknowledge that

not bigger but he's more than what hip hop is enough for him not to be the definition of it. and if he's the current representative then it's a poor representation. with that said drake is more than hip hop

    • there is no “stripping” of Drake’s whiteness, and certainly can’t be compared to the notion of his blackness being stripped. To even equate the two using the terminology “stripped of” when we know what that word means in relation to blackness is appalling. White US history is not black US history and the two experiences aren’t the same
    • we constantly acknowledge Drake being white so that’s that on that as the great Dennis Graham himself would say

I disagree completely but tbh I don’t really wanna derail the thread with this type of conversation. But I’ll say this, if you actually knew your black history you would know that denying his whiteness is actually the more problematic and racist stance historically

I don't think this is farfetched at all and I don't think he is being disrespectful about it either. Drake is talented and can assimilate to many genres but I never really took him for a pure hip hop artist and I think he would say the same thing. I wouldn't consider Drake being from hip-hop culturally (slang, style - cloths and hair, music, environment, community, food,) but that doesn't mean he can't be influenced by it. He clearly has been and has done it very well but I think he is someone who just kind of floats around genres. And that's a talent not many have. Also, I think there's a clip of Drake mocking how people from Toronto talked and it's funny now he's an ambassador for the same thing he called ignorant. That pretty much proves that he didn't grow up like many of us who lived and breathed hip-hop culture outside of music.

The thing with Drake is that he’s more “Hip-Hop” than the niggas that aren’t of the culture. He’s an anomaly.

The fact that he’s from Canada already made him an outlier as far as the genres concerned. The mix of white and Jewish heritage is nothing new but provides evidence to question his blackness. And don’t forget that he can sing and rap.

There’s just so much about him that makes it hard it classify.

But to say he’s not Hip-Hop is a stretch and Glasses comments are indicative of how the culture praises things that are inherently broken.

If anything you could give Drake credit for expanding that lane for Lower-Middle class black people being able to participate within the culture through their feelings and introspection. A foundation that was already in place by Kanye.

Hip-Hop has just turned 50 years. That gutter, straight from the streets mentality needs to go.

    Why is Drake NOT hip-hop?

Are the timestamp records not Hip-Hop?

Just because he's versatile and makes huge pop records does not mean he's not Hip-Hop.

One dive into his catalogue and you clearly see he's Hip-Hop man

How can Drake represent lower-middle class black people when he was raised in an affluent white neighborhood in Toronto (Forest Hill I believe and I'm not saying he was super rich but that's the area he was raised) by his Jewish mother and would only see his dad (when he wasn't in prison) during the summertime in Memphis?

I think he means culturally Drake not being hip-hop. Just because someone can make a hip-hop song doesn't mean that it's their culture.
