If you’re gonna skip cover art, videos, titles, promo and undercut any hype whatsoever, it better be unequivocally the best work of your entire career
It wasn’t
that's subjective. to me it was I never really liked Camp at all, all the stuff before is corny as hell, BTI is alright 2 me - it's a much better experience with the script/video clips - i'm lukewarm on stn mtn / kauai. only gambino album i've ever actually really liked before this was AML. This his best musical work by far 2 me
Nothing against Gambino but he playied himself, I remember I didn't even know he dropped something until I read it on here
Titles and cover arts and all that is a major part of the music experience
This is like someone giving us a movie that’s unedited and the scenes aren’t in chronological order or wtv you get the point
He tried too hard w the mysterious aesthetic on this one
No it's like if the movie had no poster, no trailer, no titles and no character names. Only thing expected when it comes to an album is the music
See this why i said it was a social experiment. Bino gave us precisely what we asked for and yall turnin yall noses up actin like it wasnt enough
tbh he showed that ppl dont care as much about the music itself as they like to say
album was a great 7/10
some misses but very dope
24.19
He thought he could pull off the “mysterious” gimmick but it didn’t work at all.
A lot of the music on it is good, but the packaging + rollout was complete asscheeks.

Agreed the number titles and blank packaging do nothing for me
the album + this song were quite nice!
No cap. Hearing Charlie xcx do the creative, experimental thing more naturally right after, made gambino look like an amateur to me

exactly what i'm saying bruh. niggas was begging for the album just to not even care for the same thing they spent all this time dying for

i cant say who does it better cause ive never listened to charli but, hey, this literally the nigga that was corny enough to write camp like he's come a long way from rapping over 2007 kanye type beats about being the only black kid in gifted school
Agreed the number titles and blank packaging do nothing for me
Even though he didn’t really promote AML in a traditional sense, he still gave it a cover, actual title and real title names.
Gambino just doesn’t pull off the mysterious gimmick like DOOM or Frank did. Like he really thought because everyone loved Atlanta and This Is America was a smash hit, that he could do whatever tf he wanted and people would eat it up. He was trying to be “deep”, but it came off so surface level and people could see through it.

yall swear ppl are trying too hard to be deep when they do the bare minimum mf just wanted the music out, so much so that literally put out files on a sunday morning. frank and doom (rip) would do s*** way more calculated and "try-hard", and yall would eat that s*** up.

I’m pretty sure we’ve had this f***ing back and forth before man. I’m getting crazy deja vu.

The music on 3.15.20 is good but nowhere near any level to justify the mysterious concept

maybe it was some other nigga, i've never really spoken out against the mysterious narrative till i made this thread
