I ended up doing a rewatch last Summer. Honestly season 8 doesn't feel nearly as trash when there's no 2 year wait building up to it. It's still not good by any means, but the first 2 episodes don't feel much different from what we were getting in seasons 6-7 and I still contend that The Long Night is an incredible achievement. The problems start after that, and the last episode is still just absolutely beyond awful, nothing will ever be able to save that.
