"All the fiends they love me, and everytime I showed up, even they kids be hugging me"
    -Blackguy (1999)

The internet has served as a worthy successor to the concept of the library. A structure that has archived many mediums such as books, art, movies, videos, and music. The latter is one of the few mediums that has reaped the benefits of transferring into the digital age. The Hip Hop genre showcased different scenes and subcultures thanks to being digitally excavated. Old and new, an area that has been rediscovered is the Omaha Hip Hop scene—one that at one point had an allegiance to NOLA (specifically No Limit Records). However, it appears to have its own sound and style that unfortunately wasn’t tapped into or cultivated in bigger cities. That being said, there is one figure who harbors the energy of Omaha Hip Hop at it's most authentic

Repping from North Side Omaha, Nebraska. Blackguy got his early beginnings in 1991 when he ran into local producer L-Mac-N and started a long career of rapping. He first gained momentum being involved in the local rap group Full Clip from 1995–1998. Blackguy stood out for his peculiar delivery and proceeded to drop a few solo albums, most notably: All About Me (1999) and Think About It(2007)—all before eventually not being heard from again since

In my opinion, Blackguy has got to be one of the most underappreciated MCs I’ve heard in not only the Midwest Hip Hop region but in the Rap canon. This man has a hard-hitting yet humorous style - there were times I would laugh at how straight up he was. I would best describe him as a younger version of Bishop Bullwinkle but if he was coming up on some 20s and some wood His vocality is as jammy as riped blackberries. Whether he’s involved in a catcalling gone wrong (What It’s Crackin’ Like), raising hell on his haters (I’m A Player’s Thug Mix), or establishing morale (Who's Down To Ride With Me). Blackguy is a person that cleverly executes the duality between chaos and connection. All while encouraging his people no matter what with a entrepreneurial spirit.

Sonically, the production style that he chooses has similarities to that of No Limit albeit more less funkier and a rather hypnotic, laidback sound . It's very R&B coded with it's emphasis on male or female sanged hooks. Interestingly, it often has a Proto-Snap( sound mixed with G-Funk. That isn't just an observation on his music but to most of the North Side Omaha Hip Hop scene at the period of time(Ex. Doezha L-Mac-N, Pocket Pete, etc.) . Best displayed by the Mario Kart ass sounding beat of "All About Me", "20s & Some Wood", and of course "Omaha Thang" from Blackguy's Full Clip days. He also did a remake of the Omaha Hip Hop classic, "No Rules"(1995), on his solo album which I feel is faithful and continues the Doezha sound.

Overall, Blackguy was one helluva talent and snapshot of how criminally disrespected the Omaha Hip Hop scene was. He were these colorful artists cultivating an amazing local scene. And yet, there was no outside support or cosigns to have them recognized. How the Hip Hop media left this scene ignored is a mystery to me Regardless, it will always remain a Omaha Thang to those who lived through it

Happy New Years, my KTT2 brehs!
We starting this year off with a gemstone cause I know some of ya’ll were fiendin for it lol. Hope everyone has a great year and follows through with their resolutions.

    It's fire as hell.

Idk why he named himself blackguy I think that was the only thing holding him back. If he had changed it, I think people might’ve been a bit more receptive.

Never would have expected to see a Omaha rapper on here

Will peep. Unfortunately our scene has been dogshit for forever. Just people wave riding copying whatever is hot nationally.

But we still get a lot of incredible touring rap acts here that sell really well. Always got great shows coming through. It’s just a shame we don’t make music to match

I hate when a certain unknown scene wave rides and lack an identity of their own(Ex. Iowa, Arkansas, etc.)

I notice that Omaha kinda has a rough history with it but the Doezha Mac-N tree definitely tried to at least stand out for a period time at least, from my eyes.

Yeah it’s unfortunate. You’re absolutely right about the NOLA connection. No Limit is big here, and YB, Boosie, and Webbie are some of the most popular rappers.

P, Silkk, Mia X, and Mystikal were a couple year back and it was crazy. It would be cool if the city tried to do an updated take on that sound kinda like how certain parts of the Detroit scene too.

Also side not never ran into more Plies fans than here lol.

    You from Omaha?

It's crazy to think when Cleveland use to be a factor in the region sans Bone Thugs before fading away.

Milwaukee has had its ups and downs on a recognition level(Ex. the rise of LowEnd and the scrutiny of Coo Cal)

Aside from Freddie Gibbs, don't get me started on Indiana

I'm not from Omaha lol. I'm from NJ All the way on the East lol

And if New Omaha did an update on the NOLA sound, that would be
