    Need some help deciding

Been planning to start printing clothes/making designs and Ive come up with a sizeable amount of ideas And want to try it out

Should I make my own 4 color t shirt printing station, or buy a heat press (12x10) off Amazon?

Different method of transfer, difference in price (I think). I have space in my crib for either but I dont think for both just yet.

Yea. I was gonna head down to lowes and build one myself lol cuz i have free time and just want to get into it and stop stalling. But i heard about other methods and want to pick one that makes sense for me.

Id be building a 4 color printing station, or buying a heat press

Honestly when I’m buying a shirt from a small brand if I see it’s screen printed I’m definitely more inclined to buy. Just feels like it’s higher quality and more work went into it you know?

As someone whos slowly getting into screen printing I’ll let you know that its a s*** ton of money in order to do it. I’ve only worked with plastisol and its messy af. I’m sure water based ink is “less” messy though. Like shiv122 said screen printed stuff exemplifies higher quality and its more desired but heat pressing is way easier to get into and do at home imo

Oh damn. I shouldve calculated the price of inks and mesh screens too, I was only thinking about the build.

What would you say is an average cost of inks/paints and other perishable stuff? Id like to get an Idea since I have a good amount of money saved up

Its not even the inks and screens that get you that stuffs cheap. Its all the other equipment that you need. You need uv light in order to burn an image on to the screen so you can just use sunlight but a uv exposure unit alone is like 800. You’ll def need a flash dryer to cure the ink which is 500. Idk about water based inks but if you use plastisol you're gonna need a pressure washer to clean the ink off the screens . The one I got is perfect for indoor use and it was 300.

That is wild I had no idea the startup costs for screen printing are so high. I’m understanding now why local places where I live charge so much for screen printed goods

Yea and this is just a bare minimum home setup. I think I’ve spent a rack just to get one idea out lmao.
