    WESLEY PRESELY

I mean it all depends on perspective. Is rap stale from a mainstream place? Yeah absolutely. But in terms of hip hop albums this year, there’s been a lot of great diverse talent. Saba, Denzel, Vince, Kendrick, Joey, JID etc.

These days you just have to look a little deeper.

Ten Years Ago Cole and Kendrick were the top 2 and 3 rap artists making that type of music

Now we have to “search” for them niggas lol

Wes you’re a smart music listener, i see you in threads. Don’t delude yourself into thinking some mid album is up there with 2010-12 tier s*** just because that lane has been dry for a whole generation now

You know who did drop a 9/10 rap album this year? Billy woods

    1. Subjectively you’re entitled to believe that JIDs album wasn’t good. But a lot people liked it a lot and it got the praise it did for a reason.

    2. 2010-2012 wasn’t all that man. Pop rap era was even worse then a lot of the mid out now

    3. Billy Woods album was fire.

    Facts.

    This is a perfect example

Smino and JID probably peaking where there at right now is a perfect example of this s*** being just different lol. Those Niggas woulda been Blog Era All Stars and eventually got to doing 100k or around it ten years ago.

That whole era of artist in that lane being that big died in 2016-2018 lol. Niggas literally would rather fw a nigga because he got cool Melodies and can dress (????) over a nigga who actually tries in his raps lol

It’s crazy how quickly things shifted and how different the rap game is now than it was like 6-7 years ago

Things are always shifting though. Who knows where the pendulum will swing next? All I know is this era is not the endgame because there will never be an endgame.

not that i disagree; i actually agree with your overall point

but JID and especially Smino sing all the damn time, probably more than most rappers. so ion think the melodies is why they ain’t made it.

  • Sep 4, 2022

I bet only 1 of them is going to actually drop a singing album

Crazy how they still the top 2 and 3.
Drake, Kendrick and Cole have had a chokehold on rap music for years now.

Freddie did have a side singing album.

All of the artists mentioned in op have, but only one time.

Which is why im n a few others are confused because bro acts like they quit rapping when they didnt n have on fact been rapping since those side projects.

Hes complaining about nothing because they never quitted Rap nor have they even s***ted on Rap loke the "im a rockstar" or "im an artist" crowd that act like Rap is trash, beneath them, not as serious or less of worth like Uzi or Post.

  • ye did the same s*** on 808’s, and in the grand scheme of his discog it didn’t matter he’s still rapping like 15 years later

  • i agree the sentiment doesn’t come off great though

Traditional rap is dead unfortunately. You need melodies and trendy flows to make it. JID just dropped a 9/10 rap album and nobody cares. Cole and Kendrick are the last of them in the mainstream.

    everything circles back eventually
