Also this
@op is intentionally wording it strange for engagement bait.
duh
did he want kendrick to show up with a bomb vest and commit suicide on all white people
K. Dot would have done that.
God he’s so good
You can't be revolutionary on the TV, that's probably why he ended with TV Off. Reminds me of that Mark Fisher quote about Cobain and MTV:
"Cobain knew he was just another piece of spectacle, that nothing runs better on MTV than a protest against MTV; knew that his every move was a cliché scripted in advance, knew that even realising it is a cliché."

mnnnmmmm ngood quote yes
He's right, we need more people with this thought pattern. Kendrick gets to enjoy the aesthetic of being a "revolutionary" but doesn't do any revolutionary s***.
I love the music hate the liberal white bread politics.
But what realistically would satisfy that in 2025
This falls into Kanye’s dillemma where 2004-2010 Kanye being conscious and that being regular/tame in 2025 so he gotta do way more ridiculous s*** to be counter culture lol
Same for like hoping for a new Pac type figure, all those ethos are damn near said by the NBA now to where it wouldnt be some revolutionary thing to say what Pac used to say lol
Seems like this is more a subconscious frustration that the white execs behind these things listened to the right albums and watched the right documentaries and “the struggle” is now a marketing ploy
Ironically hence this niggas song being played at the beginning lol
K. Dot would have done that.
k dot would be performing look out for detox and rigamortis, not some polirtical take that wouldnt be aired and cant even have proper care within a 12 min setlist
duh
just remember that you’re a genocide apologist the next time you derisively trivialize the structure of ebonics like I’ve seen you do on here before

To an extent sure but this is bullshit lol. Plenty of people’s minds have been sparked by the existence of Pac Cobain Old Ye etc and that makes it worth it. this is almost the same justification ppl use now for artists not trying to be of substance at all lol

the art isn't the same as the representation of that art/artist through the spectacle of TV/Media
I don’t think I’ve seen a bad ghais take

It’s about building power structures that do empower revolutionaries and therefore give material basis to revolutionary expressions
The current power structures (capitalist-liberal) inherently suppress actual revolution but the cultural ideology of liberalism of “be who you wanna be* (*within our system)” means it’s very easy to co-opt revolutionary sentiment through the actions of aesthetic and performance
We have to divest and restructure. It’s a lot of work but there’s common interest to do so. Everyone wants to escape

Revolutionary thought, leaders and movements are always going to get co-opted by the ruling class in an attempt to console the masses. That's a given.
The frustration for me lies with the fact that someone like Kendrick will point out systemic issues and then never explicitly say the why even though we know he knows why. You're telling me the guy who made Institutionalized doesn't know capitalism is a death cult?
Lmaoo like what do you expect from the NFL halftime show
I didnt catch it but apparently he called out trump at the start
the expectations for a 12 min set where not a single song gets fully played is asinine from the few minority
i have no idea what they expect
also f*** em, kendrick did a send a message about his own state and culture, not some random factoid they want to pencil in - and someone from that state and culture especially since it was being clowned into the earth for until mtg, it did mean something

He acknowledged it on Savior
But he’s surrendered his anger to serve his own personal self rather than the broad social paradigm
I choose me
i dont think people realize how much kendrick is on a f*** of yall outside westcoast energy since all of yall tried to play him and our home for most of the year last year with no grace
we dont care like how you didnt

The dilemma rap faces now is that everyone people say is good or doing something different doesn’t have a MTV or 106 and park the way Kurt cobain kanye or pac did lmao
Everything niggas loved about the past 30 years is because a corporation gave counterculture a spotlight
I thought he already abandoned the bullshit revolutionary gimmick and embraced being the next HOV

I appreciate so much that this site is even the only place that we can have a convo like this
I feel like its a constant ebb and flow of empowering Pac and Ye types and then those ethos just melting into the general zeitgeist and we end up back here underwhelmed (from a revolutionary perspective) with something like Kendrick at the superbowl
