It's indeed real that people are sensitive to gluten and have reactions to it, and there should be products that offer those people more choice.

But "gluten-free" quickly became a marketing gimmick that implies healthier eating for everyone, just like "organic", "all natural", "no sugar added", "diet–", "low fat", etc... The bad part about "gluten-free" becoming one of these is that it's not unhealthy at all to eat gluten unless you have a sensitivity to it, but making gluten-free products doesn't require as much work in production so companies can save lots of money by skipping a totally normal step in making a product and market it to everyone as a health benefit.

This isn’t true at all lol. Why do you guys speak on things you clearly haven’t done research on. Nutrition is still a relatively newly developing science all things considered, which is why you see so many conflicting ideas coming out on what’s healthy and what’s not healthy. Foods with gluten essentially include refined carbs. These foods tend to be really calorie dense and overconsumption of them is arguably the biggest reason why the US is so overweight. But even looking behind that, refined carbs contribute greatly to inflammation of the gut, and gut health has SO many causal effects on the rest of your body’s functions.

It’s not like if you eat gluten you’re bound to be unhealthy, but in the majority of cases, avoiding gluten and dairy (because most adults develop lactose intolerance to at least some degree) will be a massive benefit to a person health wise.

There is absolutely ZERO established basis or exploration behind the idea that eating gluten-free foods is healthier for the average person.

The Gluten Intolerance Group literally states that living or dieting "gluten-free is healthier for you" is a myth and pure conflation.

Moreover, gluten-rich foods and refined carbs have no definitive correlation. Refined carbs appear at the grain processing stage, which is why the Gluten Intolerance Group also warns people who are on gluten-free diets specifically to be aware of of refined carbsnot people who tolerate gluten. (Because refined carbs and glutens merely overlap in foods and are not caused by one or the other.)

Imagine if you didn't talk straight out of your ass with delusional authority like you do above. You might've realized that what's actually healthy is having a whole grain diet, not simply being gluten-free. You might've also not made the idiotic comparison between gluten and lactose too.

Next time you should remain seated if what you have to say can be completely disproven by the topic's leading organization with a few seconds on Google.

I JUST said that excess gluten is unhealthy because of the overlap with refined carbs. How do you misread my post that badly? Of course if you’re just replacing it with gluten-free food that still has refined carbs, it’s not going to make a difference. Most of the gluten-free alternatives are crap. I stick to a paleo diet, and I actually do personally have an intolerance to gluten that flares up my hashimoto’s

I’m not even celiac but simply cutting out gluten from my diet lowered my TSH from 12.2 (very low thyroid production) to 2.8 (slightly low thyroid production). That’s without even taking thyroid medication alongside it. It absolutely contributes to gut inflammation

If only there was a way to go back and highlight what your post says to expose the desperate backpedaling above.

You didn't have to tell me you were doing paleo or one of the other irrational, unscientific cult diets. I already assumed that much after your first reply to me.

I'm sure your next reply will convince everyone that you've won here. Have fun.

Gluten-free is not that same thing as grain free. There have been many books, papers, studies that have discuss how American wheat is different from what most of the world eats. Gluten-free is mainly focused on avoiding American wheat

Nobody said gluten free is grain fre.

And, AKA whole or unprocessed grains. Which is what both of those links above refer to.

So I'm assuming you think gut health is total nonsense then, right? And that it doesn't matter what you eat so long as you're not getting too many or too little calories

I almost went to this gluten free restaurant yesterday then I googled what has gluten and I was like man

    its a trend

very few ppl are legitimately gluten intolerant

non-coeliac gluten sensitivity isn’t clinically proven

whereas coeliac disease is a real autoimmune disorder

That’s for celiacs disease. We can all eat gluten and not worry about dying or having an immediate reaction to it but it still impacts us differently over time.

Everybody stands to benefit from eating gluten free, or at least vastly less amounts.

The thing is gluten free substitutes are often more expensive to produce than the real thing. Which is why GF items are always marked up.

You literally have to do extra steps to have gluten exist in foods. Its not like taking lactose out of milk.

They're marked up because it's a marketing trend.

Again, the leading authorithy on gluten intolerance literally says it is completely false that gluten-free diets are healthier for everyone

This f***ing guy. You read a few articles and think you’re a scholar on everything gluten. Who do you think you are to tell everyone who faces some consistently recorded reactions to gluten, “it’s all in your head cause these doctors said so”?

You’re so stuck in your own head it’s unbelievable.
