Cracks me up knowing this mans "positive" legacy really boils down to a hatred of Communism and Russia .

There's a reason he is way more popular outside Russia than inside

    Utter nonsense

Planned economy so good the moment it faces outside competition it folds in on itself

Just face it the economic theory was crank and the inevitable happened

Didnt know 1991 onwards was a planned economy! You should release a dissertation with your theory

Why do you think the economic downturn happened. And why do you think some countries rebounded strongly and others didn't

"Rebounded strongly" after 10 to 20 years of economic downturn just to return to 1989 levels? Moronic

Albania (also part of the Eastern bloc) took until 2011 before they got to where their economy was in 1989

I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure countries like Poland recovered faster

Moral of the story is to just be better at economic policy. Not our fault Russian, belarussian and Ukrainian elites were f***ing idiots

  • Imagine building an economy reliant on central planning and mismatched to demand, then blaming everyone else when it cant handle competition

It was either collapse abruptly or deteriorate slowly over a long time

RIP to one of the greatest and most influential politicians of all time.

Pizza Hut goated tbh it’s the best of the big chain pizza places

    @FranquitoReynolds worst nightmare

It was a lie that this was the only letter that he wrote to a foreign leader. He had previously wrote a letter to Carter begging him to pave the way for him to land and in return he promised him he will end communists in Iran, which he did brutally with firing squads on top of a school building.

Just one last thing to say

The decision to privatise state assets and industries in the manner Russia did was entirely a Russian decision. Russian citizens were not aware of the true value of these assets so sold them to get by, and thats how the oligarchy got worse.

Sure it's a tragedy, but this was a choice the Russians made themselves. It didn't go anywhere near as badly in other former communist economies.

There were several other methods that could have been taken

    Scratchin Mamba

    It's all true

Russia would have been better selling a few of the assets that aren't natural monopolies to investors overseas. These investors are going to want a return on investment so will pour FDI into russia.

Once the economy is improved, they can then distribute the remaining assets among the Russian population

We shouldn't get blamed for Yeltsin being stupid as s***
