It 100% makes sense that that’s the real ending.

If he’s left the path of the samurai, and become a rogue “ghost”, he wouldn’t care about stuff like honouring his comrades with death, etc

It also just shows that he has his own code he follows. Like he’s not the ghost but he’s also no longer a samurai

It was Jin’s own English VA that said it or something, probably something they used in the scripting/narrating

haven't played this since it released, might be time for a 2nd playthrough

Nate Fox, the creative director of the game said in a few interviews that the canon ending was Jin sparing his uncle

Something that also plays into this is if you kill, and then do a hot springs, there’s a reflect on your choice and he wonders if he did the right thing, there’s no such dialogue for the spare ending
