SRS by Earl is a masterpiece, despite sounding almost like unfinished demos - same with "The Glow pt.2" by The Microphones and many other GREAT lo-fi albums. Great music will always be great. Alex G recorded most of his album using garage band and a s***ty USB mic - and his music still sounds GODLY. Use what you have and make it work.
"SRS by Earl is am masterpiece"
No it doesn't
You're not gonna enjoy a song that genuinely sounds like it was recorded with cheap equipment idc how good the song itself is
SRS sounds amazing to me b
to me too, but it doesn't sound like your typical well-recorded album released by COLUMBIA RECORDS
I agree but if you dropping some lo fi/ unfinished sounding s*** u gotta at least have interesting vocals, Jai did that well

obviously the talent will still be there regardless of how it''s recorded, mix or whatever

I have loved a lot of songs that sound that way
I’ll even go one step further
Great music doesn’t age, the perception of it does
That’s why you can listen to something from decades ago and not think it came out in that year (like Bowie)
?
I'm not talking about songs that have a "low budget" sound for effect
But s*** that was recorded with a $20 mic for example, your brain won't even allow you to enjoy it
Just not possible

Yep. "The Downward Spiral" by NIN or "Starsailor" by Tim Buckley and many others sound just as good like it came out just yesterday
we must go older
