But to me its missing something other than high budget or action. Like I need to rewatch from the beginning but its a bit disjiointed in messaging. In plot. In villains I care about their reasoning enough . In world building. It feels like its trying to do so much but not landing on a lot of it for me. It has hyped up this WHO KILLED HAL while at the point I am at I dont care who that is as much as it wants me to. Especially because I am still seeing him in each episode so its not even like he is fully gone to me. Then combine that with a hologram of him. Which is some of the same things I mentioned when Man of Steel did it of "your dad dead " but here goes a hologram and flashbacks. So I dont even fully feel the grief. Its hard to explain or describe but again something feels empty in this show and I love lindelof even though he is just one piece and its mundy and king too. I know the black culture parts are likely more lindelof and I appreciate those at least. But he gone for season 2 so wish i would more feel his imprint on this season.
Yeah - like I’m surprised we don’t have the John intel on what happened between him
and his parents 16-26 after they got a whole episode previously. Just weird pacing? Idk.
I have full faith but the last 2 episodes have fallen very flat for me.
as it stands rn, a season 2 aint getting a watch from me
You wont be missed

I thought it was implied the way they treated him growing up made him grow distant and they have like a tough love relationship. Dude won’t call his mom by anything but her first name lol.

We do have Intel he doesn't speak to them

Yeah his dad is in a retirement home and he refused to talk to him even while he was begging the lady to let him talk to his son.
Idk how bro has missed that
Worst part of the episode is the girl wanting 300k. None of that is interesting unless they do something with it in the finale.

That s*** is so dumb and feels tacked on. Grown ass man just going along with that extortion

she probably wouldn’t have even cared or thought John actually killed Hal either lol she knows they argued.

He should've just called her bluff man, she on some BS. Like I get that it was a traumatic event for her but the show hasn't done enough to highlight her conviction further or even make John push back more than he did. I imagine the show's limited episode count doesn't help either
man zero way this doesn't end on a cliffhanger lol
I think answers will be interwoven with many things, so it will unravel together

fair fair

no one missed anything, bro. i'm just saying i wanted more. where we left off with them, (john as a kid) they were in a fine place? if i remember that correctly. the rest is implication but i felt like they were leading up to something else crazy happening. why is john ducking their phone calls in 2026? when and where was his revelation that they were bad parents? nothing else about his demeanor towards them suggests he would freeze them out - until he did. (remind me if i missed something)
but we only know he now hates them via that one guardian convo. (did he detail it all there?)
i'd like to have seen john, as a teen or adult, confronting his parents. that woulda been some real TV. the last time we see him with them is when he's running home to excitedly tell them the news, but meets Hal instead. and then boom - he hates them. huh.

I did want to see more of his back story personally and growing up at different levels especially since he is the character we know even if the show ends will be in man of tomorrow and future dc movies. I get they have to serve hal jordan fans too so that eats up time
Outkast songs and black movie references feel like jingling keys in this and people like "OMG HE SAID NIGGA IN THE DCU"
when its like Damon Lindelof came from Watchmen. I have spent this season seeing the black character f*** a robo gilf, respect all forms of authority and be pretty one note which was our fear from the first episode. I am going to rewatch the entire season this week but this s*** not slapping like I wanted it to . I will be honest there was some level of soul missing.
the hamfisted race aspects throughout the season only worked so much for me.
im surprised they couldnt even get a watchmen budget.
unless its ALL going into this last episode lol
I actually just watched Watchmen recently, that series was a masterpiece. I couldn't get into when it was airing for whatever reason but I'm glad I circled back to it.

It’s f***ing brilliant.
It’s what I was hoping this could be, but that’s on me.

I think the end of episode 5 when he was like " I been working my whole life for the ring and now that I finally have it, I feel empty" line was the revelation.
The decision to reject the ring and the duty his parents instilled him since he was 5 is also a rejection of them. I did kinda want to see a confrontation but it might of been too much showing. I think that scene alone does enough heavy lifting to suggest that he was finally choosing himself over his parents
The original episode order is kinda interesting and changes a lot of the subtext in the show and pretty much ruins the flow imo

Hmm I see I see.
Would have been far more interesting and engrossing to see him actively denying or moving away from his parents
Imagine him SPEAKING AHP at his mom
