But on the other end scraping everything now and rebooting AGAIN would likely be a dumber move than just seeing where everything plays out.Also, theyre going to be acquire the company with a massive debt, and also have the 30 Films per year mandate. Starting a DCU over from scratch again may be an unwise decision
I don’t get the business decision of starting a universe from scratch this early even does. The logic is if something isn’t working just keep rethrowing it at the wall with massive overhauls and hirings instead of just seeing if it pays off like with marvel?
I’d argue the dcu is basically in the same spot as the MCU was in phase 1 of not better. It was the same with the start of the dceu as well but that had super heavy criticisms that I could see hurt the brand. Most of the complaints of the dcu are just nerds in a bubble this time

Looking back it was crazy what happened with the dceu when man of steel made more money than any solo MCU phase 1 film. But because of some cinemasins esque critiques instead of just building a better Superman in the sequel they fumbled the universe lmao

Sep 29·1 replyilgndno one missed anything, bro. i'm just saying i wanted more. where we left off with them, (john as a kid) they were in a fine place? if i remember that correctly. the rest is implication but i felt like they were leading up to something else crazy happening. why is john ducking their phone calls in 2026? when and where was his revelation that they were bad parents? nothing else about his demeanor towards them suggests he would freeze them out - until he did. (remind me if i missed something)
but we only know he now hates them via that one guardian convo. (did he detail it all there?)
i'd like to have seen john, as a teen or adult, confronting his parents. that woulda been some real TV. the last time we see him with them is when he's running home to excitedly tell them the news, but meets Hal instead. and then boom - he hates them. huh.
When he let go off being GL his relationship with his parents fell apart because that goal was the only thing holding them together.

HaroldsChickenOutkast songs and black movie references feel like jingling keys in this and people like "OMG HE SAID NIGGA IN THE DCU"
when its like Damon Lindelof came from Watchmen. I have spent this season seeing the black character f*** a robo gilf, respect all forms of authority and be pretty one note which was our fear from the first episode. I am going to rewatch the entire season this week but this s*** not slapping like I wanted it to . I will be honest there was some level of soul missing.
the hamfisted race aspects throughout the season only worked so much for me.
John Stewart is NOT a one note character. They successfully fleshed out this character through 7 episodes. They also have shown how his personality changed after he walked away from the ring. A weight was lifted off his shoulders.

Okay to you . To me he wasn’t fleshed out in the way I fully wanted to see . I’m going to rewatch the season and see if he grows on me

SETTING UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS FOR MYSELF ABOUT LINDELOF CONTROL OF THE SHOW THEN REALIZED HE ISNT SHOWRUNNING IT AND IS IN THERE WITH 2 OTHER WRITERS AND IT AT TIMES SHOWS. yeah I saw young fashioned was doing too much to the point of if you know its not even doing slightly for you just dont watch. I get watching to be included in discussion but this show is a show where if you hate it like that just put it down.

Dropped stompSorry but no s***… they’re the main characters of the show and the plot is driven by the murder mystery… not one show would be good if you didn’t care about the main characters
Chemistry between the two leads doesn’t automatically make a great show. The show is good. What’s stopping it from being great is the fact that the overarching mystery and the various side characters pale in comparison to the chemistry between Pierre & Chandler. Most of the time I find myself tuning in for the banter between their two characters and couldn’t care less about the story or the mystery they’re trying to solve.
I think ultimately the writers and the actors who play them fundamentally understand Hal & John which is why their characterization is the best part of the show, but unfortunately I don’t think the writers gave these two characters a good enough story to work with other than bargain bin True Detective.

@big_tipper pretty much summed up my thoughts for me, but to make them even shorter. only thing ive been drawn to is the chemistry between hal and john and the hope for some real action. idc for the plot of who done it at this point

yeah the plot really a mess . You can feel the too many chefs in the kitchen . I feared the mention of True Detective that much would be an issue. I do wonder what grounded plot they could have done that didnt try to do entirely too much they could have pulled off. Hopefully they figure out something better for season 2 but without Damon Lindelof I wont really care. He was my selling point or hook.

Show, don’t tell.
They do show the strain but it's subdued. I like that approach, overt or covert is cool but I understand why some folks would prefer the show to put a stamp on that
