May 13, 2021I think the worst convo I ever had about sampling was trying to explain the difference between songs that take samples from older songs and flip them (much like Dre x Kanye etc.) to someone like Flo Rida who literally just made rap remixes to 80s songs like Right Round. The person I was talking to thought the flipped samples were more flagrant with unoriginality than the literal rap rehashes. Think I lost a good 100 brain cells during that convo.

side note but I remember when Skateboard P by tokyo was poppin in like 2017 and I had to explain to a white friend that Skateboard P was Pharrell..all for him to say "the guy that sings happy?"
sampling is such a major part of the culture and a lot of jits don't get it (not just white people)..I'm 26 so I'm not that old but it seems like the younger people don't give a f*** about older music, samples, etc. which sucks tbh bc they missing out
I just don't get it bc when I was 15-21 I still rocked with all the new s*** heavy but listened to just as much older s*** and so did the homies.
