superhero sxn doesn't seems like a bad idea

Why there isn’t an actual capeshit sxn is beyond me

  • Jul 25, 2022

not like hollywood pumping anything else out of worth

  • Jul 25, 2022

I don't really watch the movies but the whole operation has me depressed for some reason. Think it's the multiverse nonsense. Everybody always says these movies are to turn your brain off but here they are with universe 2435 or whatever

it being a "Marvel audition" doesn't really track when the Daniels literally turned down Marvel to make Everything Everywhere lol

    Yeah unless you watch it.

This was before I knew they were already working with the Russos and being courted by Marvel. So it's unfair if you know or if you don't apparently lol

Oh, ok, that’s fine, you can share your opinion. I personally don’t understand how it was like Marvel. It reminded me more of fun adventure movies from the 80s.

It's most heavily inspired by The Matrix and Rick and Morty and Tik Tok and the humor is definitely all wrong. The only thing 80s is like Yeoh and Curtis and Shortround. The tech is more late 90s and early 00s as well.

What 80s adventure film does it remind you of? King Solomon's Mines?

Actually felt a lot like a Pixar movie to me with it's focus on family, protagonist's failed dreams and the villain being the protagonist's daughter (feel Pixar has done all those tropes a lot).
If it didn't have some swearing and some blood here and there, I wouldn't have been shocked if someone told me Disney made it.

looks like half the threads are ass then

I guess maybe a Disney channel original but that's not 1980s either. Disney wouldn't even put out Back to the Future because it was too adult.

Pixar also isn't Disney and they aren't known for human let alone adult protagonists.

Pointless discussion but yeah, found the movie annoying and grating. The craftsmanship is good. In poor taste, too broadly sentimental, multiverse thematically is pretty cynical, etc.

It's a success though. No reason to let me yuck your yum. I like trash all the time

Yh it's definitely getting out of hand. Marvel sxn needed

I think it goes without being said that Marvel is the biggest ongoing franchise of the 21st century. With the success they have had over the last 14 years, they have become more or less a machine. Now a good number of us enjoy the product that comes from that machine and some of us don’t. That is fine because film, or any art as a matter of fact, is subjective. If @op likes Paul Blart, who am I to tell them that they are invalid or trash for enjoying Paul Blart. I hate the Paul Blart movies but I don’t go out of my way to chastise someone for liking them. Trust me, I LOVE other types of film (finally caught up on the Kino SXN scavenger hunt and will be doing this/last week’s tomorrow ) but I also LOVE superhero movies. It’s pure escapism entertainment in this world that is getting worse by the hour.

Now with there being “too much” Marvel going on right now. Again, that’s a subjective thing. This week, Marvel is putting out 13 issues of comic books and puts out about that same amount every week. Some may say that these film and TV projects are starting to reflect the comics in their release patterns. Some may say its too much while others think it's not enough.

You also have to remember that Marvel is basically its own studio that only makes superhero content. Sure, it’s a production arm of Disney but in essence they are a single movie studio that makes one product derived from the comic book company that they are named after. This past weekend was San Diego Comic Con, the biggest entertainment convention in the world, where in fact Marvel dropped a lot of news about their upcoming slate. So of course, it would look like Marvel has taken up half of Film/TV. It’s going to balance out in a few days.

I think the same goes for any SXN on here. Lord knows music is full with Drake, Ye, kendrick, Cole, etc. That's because they're the most popular acts today.

To the point of making a superhero section, what are we going to do after that, a horror section? There are new horror movies out every week so should we make a horror section. Do we break up every section by genre? Like how far does that go. Or do y'all just not want to see Marvel because y'all hate it? Because if that's the case just say that then lmao

If you don't want to see it so bad go formulate discussion in other threads. Bullet Train is out next week and I don't see much chatter about that. Or what about the trailer for the new Emmet Till movie that just came out? Surely y'all would want to talk about that right? Or is it that you have more to say about what you don't like than what you do like.

Also just be glad I compiled all of the TV shows into one thread or else the majority of this SXN will really be Marvel lmao

TLDR: Marvel is the biggest franchise and this weekend was Comic Con so of course discussion is going to dominate. Separating genres or types of films into their own sections is a bad idea. Other film threads are here so go talk about those. Unless all you really want is to talk about something you don't like.

And that's because nobody makes them

I could make a thread right now about The Seed which i watched on Shudder this past weekend, but nobody is going to talk about it. I could make multiple threads on any of the Shudder originals but they're not going to get traction or much discussion because they're furthest from mainstream films. Marvel is the most mainstream of mainstream.

Do I agree that they drown out other films in the marketplace? Yeah in anytime but the summer.

And the point about right now is that this weekend was COMIC CON

Idk why you would be against it, it's a win/win for everyone involved tbh. You guys can continue to do your thing, it's not like there's gonna be less posters, and the rest of us who are not interested can be freed from a marvel clogged up sxn

The fact that a single word turns you off from navigating this sxn is funny

Like scroll down or use the search function to find threads on topics that you want to talk about

Or better yet, make the threads

Like I don't watch One Piece but that thread is at the top at times and guess what, I don't click on it
