The biggest reason why these games failed is because of adding sprint
F***ed up the halo formula and turned it into a game where half the things that we loved about this game (vehicles, using grenades to boost you to certain spots, special weapons in various locations) were just unnecessary now that we could just sprint or use power ups.
These games are no longer Halo. Just a bootleg version of Titanfall 2 or COD Advanced Warfare.
I consider everything after ODST to be a failure.
Yeah I can agree the community split cause of armor abilities in reach. But honestly... The gaming community was moving away from halo in the long run no matter what
The games losing popularity has a lot more reasons than a damn sprint button but I’m happy the hype back to an all time high

Well sure. I am not out here trying to say if they just kept everything the same Halo would still be one of the biggest games.
You have to evolve for sure. But the reason why a game like Call of Duty or Battlefield never really lost their fanbase is that they were able to adapt to modern trends WITHOUT altering the core gameplay.
Halo made trendy changes but the problem is all those changes heavily f***ed with the core gameplay and it started to feel like a battle between two diff games every time you played. Like in Halo 5, vehicles are pretty much useless because of all the extra abilities you have which just take away from what Halo was meant to be from the beginning: A game where you start with little to nothing and use what you got to take advantage of neat arena fps tricks rather than just being given everything from the beginning.

Halo 2 with my cousins on their Xbox then bought my Xbox 360 with halo 3. I always played for campaign first, then multiplayer/custom games. It's where I hate halo 5 with a last minute s***ty campaign. I say halo 1and halo 3 had way better more memorable maps in my eyes tbh
Memorable does not mean better. That’s subjective. Halo 1 and 2 map design was amazing. Simple and productive to the gameplay with few exceptions (Chiron from H1 being obvious example). 3 is where gimmicks started to mix with the map design and overall gameplay and it only became more and more compromised with each iteration after, this is evident even when they remade maps from prior games for h3 (avalanche) and added s*** that made no sense to it.
Though I still like Pit and Narrows + one or two others a lot.

Holograms
Camo only works when you moved at a snail’s pace
That annoying breathing your character made when they sprinted and a jet pack that lasted for like 3 seconds
.....
i grew up playing halo 2/3 at almost MLG level, and i actually loved h5. and i liked reach the least out of all them. unpopular opinion i guess but you have to be realistic about the games alongside with the era and other games.
if halo infinite drops without sprint and powerups and only 6 core weapons people are gonna say its boring as hell
Have the games really fallen off that bad ? Or is it that we simply have more and "better" options in the multiplayer scene
Halo is still selling like hotcakes, it just can't retain the multiplayer fanbase

The games have fallen off that bad. Halo lost what made it Halo which is why people loved the first 3 so overwhelmingly. H3 directly competed with CoD4 which was a massive success. Only one of those franchises went onto be the biggest console shooting franchise and only one of them stuck to its roots (and even went back to them when fans complained about deviation I.e. the wild air thrusting in cod vs boots on the ground cod). Sure wasn’t Halo.
‘Better’ options in the multiplayer scene like ppl aren’t constantly saying ‘oh look another battle royale’ and ‘oh man another cod clone awesome’ lol

Is the fact that you were so average that you can’t even say you played at ‘MLG levels’ supposed to be relevant to this

people are always going to say that, it doesn't change the fact that all of the mainstream BR's are the most played shooter MP games in the world. I think having more options has clearly impacted Halo

lmao, nah i was just saying that i was a hardcore player of the early games and i liked h5, which you (or someone else) seemed to imply was impossible

COD is also multi plat and heavily back by Sony who dominated this entire console generation
If Xbox One was the more popular console halo 5 would have retained a larger multiplayer base for longer

CoD is multiplayers yes and h3 still did very well competing against it.
Can agree with you about Xbox One playerbase but H5 was destined to die a swift death.

It wasn’t implied that it’s impossible. It’s implied that it’s obvious that the early Halos were inspired and worthwhile games compared to the later ones.
You can like H5, it’s an okay game. But it’s a s*** Halo.

I’m sure it did. But the fact that other games have survived through the BR craze while Halo remains irrelevant should tell you that it was more than just a limited option pool at hand.

I don't think it's that irrelevant, Halo 5 and 4 broke Halo 3's records in opening sales. The things you listed before has for sure contributed to the decline of Halo in the spotlight but all these new games and better options have definitely impacted Halo more than lets say the "sprint" button
I think another factor is that it is just inherently more difficult to do well in Halo multiplayer
In Cod a new player is gonna get a few kills every game even if they are matched up with better or more experienced players
Good luck in Halo lol
Also I would be shocked if Halo Infinite doesn’t release with some sort of live service-like mode, BR or something else

opening sales are not indicative of a game’s lasting power. The number of active players is more telling than anything. With H3 and even Reach you saw nowhere near the population decline that we saw in Halo 4 and Halo 5 after a month or so of release. That should 100% tell you that those games just weren’t what people wanted.
Theres no way this game is not going to be ass. 343 f***ed up the release of 3 halos in a row now lol

I know where you’re coming from but like I said, there’s a lot more options to play different types of MP shooters, especially FPS.
343 could create the best halo game and it still wouldn’t be the same level of consistent player base that Halo 3 had.
That era was the perfect storm for Halo 3, virtually almost no competitor until COD4 got its legs, once that Halo lost the crown indefinitely. But if Infinite is great, it can certainly be placed in the discussion with the top dogs. I hope.
