if the movie was this good why not keep it at its original theatrical date... seems like it would make them much more money

Hamilton's off-Broadway engagement at The Public Theater was sold out,6 and when the musical opened on Broadway, it had a multimillion-dollar advance in ticket sales, reportedly taking in $30 million before its official opening.111

By September 2015, the show was sold out for most of its Broadway engagement.112114 It was the second-highest-grossing show on Broadway for the Labor Day week ending September 6, 2015 (behind only The Lion King).7

Hamilton set a Broadway box office record for the most money grossed in a single week in New York City in late November 2016, when it grossed $3.3 million for an eight-performance week, the first show to break $3 million in eight performances.116

Yeah but the fact is i think its big enough to pull 500+ million at the box office. Seems like thats more money than what they will gain from subscribers for disney plus for this

in light of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the film industry and the performing arts that also impacted the Broadway, West End, and touring productions. This move was also done to get the film released in time for the Fourth of July weekend, on the 244th anniversary of the independence of the United States.14 The producers were initially reluctant to switch from a theatrical release to a streaming release when Iger proposed the idea, but relented after it became clear that Broadway stage productions were unlikely to reopen in 2020.13

idk im not a business man, but if they believe they will gain 500+ million over a couple years vs 500 million once (from the box office) from disney + subs from this movie then i guess go for it

like lets assume 1 million people sign up to watch hamilton at 7$ a month. That means in order to generate 500 million those 1 million have to stay subscribed for 71 months.

idk seems like a long term gamble that could pay off

tbh i guess we'll see the numbers it does

it does seem like a big risk but then again it could pay off really well
