Hanz zimmer didnt makes duel of the fates

Hans has written a million cues better than Duel Of the Fates

    Here’s one example:

i always try to be tolerant, but if you answered zimmer to this i´ll question anything ever coming out of your mouth

Yes, Time is iconic and the most well known piece of film music in the 21st century, John is a better composer in a classical sense but Hans is a much better film composer, I could write a whole essay on this stuff but clearly no one is gonna understand. John writes the same score over and over and over again, no versatility whatsoever, compare him to the classical composers he tries to imitate such as Gustav Holst, Igor Stravinsky, Richard Wagner, etc. and he pales in comparison, whereas Hans is completely original and single-handedly invented modern film scoring. When it comes to scoring to film Hans is better, this isn’t even a debate, same as there’s no debate that John is a better orchestral composer than Hans.

You think I don’t know about RCP...? Hans invited me to intern there with him I know everything about how Hans runs his show, and at the end of the day he’s delivering amazing scores, that’s all that matters. Like I said, John is a WAYYYYY better composer in a classical sense, no question about it, but as far as writing music to film, Hans is better, that’s a fact.

Now combine the two... well then you have Thomas Newman, but that’s another story

thats dope man, genuinely happy for you. how was it?
i agree to some extent. in the end the product delivered stands above everything else, but when comparing two artists how they make said product will definitely play into the equation for me.
idk if its a fact, but hans is for sure more diverse, i´ll give him that. just depends what holds more weight to you.

Haven’t done it yet, tbh I’m simply not at the level I want to be yet, and LA is also very expensive lol. I’m taking my time studying and working during the day to save up money, I’ll go out there in like 5 years probably, I want to impress them when I’m there so that I get the opportunity to say on full time, but I still talk to a ton of people at RCP who can easily get me in, plus I have Hans approval so that holds some weight

But yes you’re right, it is a subjective thing, some people grew up with John’s music and are more partial to it, I grew up on movies like Pirates and The Lion King, and The Dark Knight is what made me want to pursue a career as a film composer, so I’m definitely more partial to Hans. My gripe with John is that a lot of the time I feel like his music distracts me from the picture, and I feel like he’s showing off his technical prowess instead of writing music that fits what’s happening on screen, me personally I would never have string and woodwind runs going on during a dialogue scene(neither would Hans lol), but John Williams does stuff like that and I just don’t feel like his music works sometimes, despite the fact that it’s superbly composed and I love studying the pieces themselves.

what are you studying? how are you working towards that goal?
i know the struggle fam. i moved to LA from germany. married my ex lol. i have a saga of screenplays ive been working on and wanted to get into the business in the past, but now im studying int. management back home and trying to get these stories off the ground in a different way.

Composition, orchestration, and film scoring. I study under Michael Giacchino’s orchestrator, who’s also the head of the music department at UCLA, so I do get a pretty good education! Other than that I put a huge focus on making connections, like I was saying I talk to a ton of people at RCP, and I’m friends with a lot of other composers who are working full time out in LA, so once I’m there I should have a lot of avenues to get my feet off the ground and get going, it’s a hard industry to break, but I’ve got time, most don’t get in until their mid to late 30s and I’m only 22 lol

I feel like the comparison between the two is great. Two of the greats in composing soundtracks for movies! Btw if y'all have recommendations of other great composers in film making give me examples & names, I'd love to learn more about the history of film scores

Too many to name but: Ludwig Göransson, anyone at RCP (Lorne Balfe, John Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams, Junkie XL, Henry Jackman, Ramon Djawadi, etc.), James Newton Howard, Howard Shore, and of course the GOAT Thomas Newman. If you wanna go back in time check out Bernard Herrmann, Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith, and Elmer Bernstein.

But John Williams and Hans Zimmer are by far the most famous and influential film composers of all time, so it’s a fair comparison even though they are stylistically complete opposites
