I think people will get really on board with the show (if its well made) around book 4 when it gets way more book accurate than the movies due to the extra length.

I'd say book 3. The movie spends 1 hour on the first 4/5ths of the book then the last hour and a half on the rest of the book cutting out tons of what happens during the school year.
