Family member I have that didn't speak out about it is doing it for a reason other than feeling "powerless, alone or at the will of their victim". How am I an a****** for asking a simple question? I’m sorry to hear you felt that way. I asked because not every case is like this. I know someone who was younger than that and exposed their abuser, but my entire point is literally that it’s better to promote actually DOING something about it, not promoting a trendy little hashtag that says “hey it’s ok to speak up long after the fact, making it even less likely that justice is served”

At 14 I didn't know how to respond to what he was doing. At 14 I didn't really see anything different between me and 22 except that he had his own house and a job.

If I had the amount of anti s***offender information we do now I'd have said something at the time. I was in 8th grade. I had no way of knowing what to do at the time.

When I finally spoke about it at 17 it got ignored because he was in the military. When I finally outed him again at 21 a bunch of other children he abused came forward too. I did it during the metoo movement so it got attention and it turns out I wasn't his first.

I wasn't an adult. I was a child. For all it's flaws that's why I'm glad metoo happened.
