drake’s voice is super f***ing annoying for the most part and this is coming from someone that loves a lot of his music lol

It's kinda monotone but at least it doesn't hurt your ears like Chance

Stans gonna deny this but it’s true. If he dropped another decent project with a few hits like coloring book instead of that flop wedding album, he would’ve set himself up to be this decade’s new superstar

He was next in line 100% in my opinion bro

How? His tone and vocal execution is always on point. Doesn’t have a rasp or lisp, lowkey think he has a top 10-15 voice in the game

Not yet but I been working on my craft 💯

This is facts. People can hate in Coloring Book all they like, but he was packing arenas in 2016. But there's a fine line between good guy (Drake) and goody two shoes (Chance). His surgery persona coming apart with his response towards fans on Twitter + his garbage album that flopped denied him ever having the top spot. He had it within his grasp in 3-4 years but he epically fumbled it.

He sometimes sounds like he's about to fall asleep. And having a rasp or a lisp isn't a bad thing if you know how to work it. It can actually help you stand out.

Chance in 2016 maybe but he fumbled his own bag

I remember being shocked when Coloring Book won Rap Album Of The Year over Views. I really thought he was going to do numbers on his real debut album

    WESLEY THE GREAT

Kendrick wasn't beating him from a commerical standpoint, but he was the only one who bothered Drake.

Chance and Travis both have rivaled his success at some point, but definitely haven't reached it.

Y'all need to stop saying this.

Kendrick has never been a rival to Drake commercially, which is really the only metric when it comes to measuring mainstream rappers. Drake has always outdone him commercially, even in his biggest year so far (2017).

Chance and Travis have NEVER rivaled Drake's success. Chance had a lot of clout back in 2016 but he was never a commercial juggernaut. All his top 10 hits are with Justin Bieber and the only album he's ever released flopped to hell and back. Travis was never a threat either. ASTROWORLD was boosted by bundles in it's first week, something Travis won't have whenever he releases his next album and Travis' biggest hit of his career was courtesy of Drake. Drake also had a bigger 2018 than Travis. Neither of those two have ever been a threat.

The only person who I can say Drake could have even remotely seen as a threat is Post Malone and when you consider the fact that Post Malone isn't a rapper and is more of a pop singer, added with the fact that Drake has outdone him in every single year since he debuted, including 2019, which was his biggest year, it really isn't close.

Drake has more hits, pulls more streams and units from his catalog every year and is cool with him, so I doubt he sees him as a threat.

When you really think about it, absolutely no one has ever really challenged Drake on a commercial level since 2009. Even if they've gone on to have a great year culturally or commercially, Drake always outdid them by the end of the year.

The only one I thought would potentially rival drake was Chance...but we see how that played out. He was pretty versatile, he was being marketed heavy, killing his live performances, and he had the perfect image. He blew it though.

For a sec, I thought X could be the leader of the next generation. Even though he didn’t master any, he had a variety of sounds. Too bad be left us too soon.

Kendrick has been a steady number 2.

    just my opinion b

in the early years when he was trying to sound like Wayne it was so much worse. nowadays it’s tolerable and even good on some songs like some of these leaks (Not Around/Sound 42) where he embraces his baritone timbre instead of trying to rap so much from the nose. you stans really need to chill though im not a hater i really do like his music

  • Dec 30, 2020

Travis is right there but I see him staying on right where he’s at and never really passing Drake. He’s also much less of an ‘MC’ then Drake... kind of a Post Malone. Even if either of those 2 outsold Drake it wouldn’t really be them taking the crown. Kind of like Nelly or Ja Rule outselling Jay in the early 00s.

Lil Baby is there and has the potential but I also don’t see he advancing into that next ‘tier’. I just don’t see him reaching that full on superstar level and I’m not sure he even really cares.

Drake has morphed supe om and rapstardom into 1. It’s hard to do and only really Cole and Kendrick have joined him in this era. Perhaps Chance teetered the line. Meek too. Juice WRLD probably had a real chance of being one of the first of the new Gen to join that level. X too.

DaBaby is probably the closest. He flirts that line of superstar and street rapper very well that almost rivals what would be a modern day 50 cent IMO. I feel a lot of his music is too similar tho he has done some great singing/auto tune joints and shown versatility. I also feel like he’s fallen off a bit from last year but I haven’t really been checking for him as much.

I agree it almost feels like it’s no ones era. And whether drake comes back and reclaims that will be seen with this next album. I don’t think drake cares much himself either now though.
