I mean, with the aesthetic/sound in general
There's some similarities in both genres when it comes to aesthetic and how "darker" and introspective they evolved over the decades
You can notice how 202X hip-hop/trap sound is way more aggressive and produced with heavier 808s/snares/etc compared to the past decades
what y'all think
More or less
50s=80s formative years
60s=90s golden era
70s=2000s-2010s, progressive and evolutionary period
Current period is the 80s and new wave and hair metal of course
Question is, who’s going to have that last hurrah (Nevermind) before it’s officially over
@rastafire you know what similarities I see? I see similarities between luv is rage and die lit. Would you agree?
Rock was only the dominant genre in the 60s, and for a few years in the 70s.
Hip hop has already surpassed rock in longevity

you think nevermind was the last hurrah of rock?
but also id say 2010s is more akin to 90s for rock

Yeah there are good albums after but nothing as culturally important as what came before. So I’m thinking if we’re lucky we get a nirvana soon and then maybe a Radiohead after that, someone to really complete the transition of rap becoming co opted by losers/Reddit whites

still hugely important cultural bands/moments for rock after 1991, even if nevermind was more important
like i dont think you can just call that the last cultural hurrah and ignore things like nu metal, pop punk, oasis, RHCP, coldplay, 00s rock wave with arctic monkeys,etc.
much more than blips in rock history

I definitely consider most of that just blips/aftershocks and epitaphs for the genre
The 2000s rock wave means nothing to anyone who has had sex. or met a non white person before. it became a very niche thing for losers at that point
Rap is going through that same thing where more and more lames are entering the fanbase and pretty soon they’ll take it over fully

i think it's safe to say that mainstream rock faded away in the end of 00s

a few of the biggest rock bands in history are part of that whole era, saying its a blip is such a reach. worth mentioning international perspective might be different too, like arctic monkeys had huge impact in UK. and some of that other s*** isnt niche either, like im not a big fan but lot of normies obviously loved s*** like green day or the killers or whatever
its funny how people are so confident to be objectively incorrect on here and then default to saying somethinig is for virgin cacs who dont go outside

yeah thats how id think of it too generally
It's following the same path as every art movement. Its hot until its not.
y'all talk about hip hop like its disco or grunge rock.
Hip hop is here to stay unlike those gimmicky genres.

You really just used the UK in this lol? Because impact in the UK is sooooo different from being impactful for virgin cacs
UK as a country is niche. Something could be the biggest thing ever over there, and still be niche and a blip in the grand scheme because they don’t matter culturally

Disco washes trap/drill/rage tbh

Trap started in the early 2000's and is still going strong.
I agree Drill/Rage is a better comparison to disco

Arctic Monkeys is massive globally basically
Arctic Monkeys is massive globally basically
Idk how I missed that. Where I’m from if you listened to rock in the 2000s everyone thought you were a school shooter. Never once heard a peep about arctic monkeys
