Nobody wants to be fun anymore everyone wants to be cool
Fun =/= cool in rap rn
s/o seiji and larussell tbh..
the new kids don't know how to make fun party songs at all. producers are to blame as well.

Yes but the real vindication is that most of these “fun dumb” songs had more consistent lyrical themes and song structure than basically everything that comes out today. Like Yung Joc is an insane MC compared to the 20s
Laffy Taffy has a whole concept and sticks to it using candy wordplay. It was elementary at the time but today it shows a level of understanding of poetry and themes that the newer generation didn’t grow up with because of declining education and technology taking over. And I’m dead serious

we do have fun records rn but
it does suck mans dont dance in public like that anymore in clubs tho i hate that i wish parties had more dancing and like actually fun movement and s***. but we got plenty of fun ass songs its just moreso mans will sing in the car or do goofy stuff or freestyle or like dance s***tily lol. I WANT MORE DANCING THO MANS NEEDA LEARN HOW TO DANNCEEEE and they dont
if u want modern examples of fun music tho:

(yes i know im sneaking my 2 agenda artists in here lowe me)
the issue is people will make that fun msuic and for some reason everyone esp ktt userbase takes it like fully deadass i think we have leftovers of bitterness over ringtone era, so a song cant just be good fun anymore lol hence why people despise ice spice and sexxy redd. like the op says that, but ice spice existence was just making really fun silly music thats like a feminine cheeky version of drill, and shes the most hated person on here. people hate drake and CLB esp for being tongue in cheek for some reason and just good fun, people DESPISE sexxy redd.
people are p highly critical esp with rap nowadays and feel a need to like regulate s*** and police it too much, and cant take some things lightly. i guess thats always been true, but s*** that me and my freinds just enhoy i hop on the internet and people are like "ohh this is just garbage!" blah blah lol something something "brainrot zoomer music tiktok msuic" buzzphrase dismissal
yall just call fun s*** tiktok songs now. we do need more anthems and silly party songs tho.

I think people are more mad there is no balance between fun TikTok type music and lyrical music in the mainstream
Back in the Ringtone era, those rappers were s***ted on for their lack of lyrical ability but at least you had the Jay Zs, Lil Wayne’s and Eminem’s of the world running the game as pure rappers plus like someone else said those ringtone rappers had creative themes in their songs
Now a lot of rappers try to chase a TikTok hit with these 20 track albums or base their career off making TikTok bait (ex: Ice Spice)

I only liked this for the Yung Joc shoutout cuz that mf was really on a run back then

my goat
We still have fun music all the time
But since we talking about the Rington era, I can't forget about Dem Franchise Boys

thats not what the rigntone era was known for tho thats exactly why the rington era was hated was that was the EXACT criticism "its all just meaningless party music" "short form music" "other than a few guys its all disposable s***". eminem was retired for basically all of the ringtone era, hov was in his fallen off carried by kanye era, and wayne also made a lot of crazy popular party songs and was CRITICIZED for being unserious, substanceless, and just talking about rapping or p**** and d****. thats why people said "hip hop is dead" at the time.
point of ringtone era is its not album based, ur not gonan have a whole album as ur ringtone. a ringtone is a few seconds long, about as long as a tiktok lol. what you call "tiktok bait" is just fun hits. ice spice made fun silly hits that were light catchy and great to sing along to. and her album was like 9 songs or something
and we do have prominent lyricists right now. Kendrick lamar, doechii, j cole, tyler the creator are some of the biggest rappers on earth right now. Eminem is still huge. Drake is also known as a great rapper. Rod wave and nba youngboy are known for being vulnerable. Even 21 was vulnerable on his last album, and even yeat on 2093.
eminem wasnt even present for 2005-2008 aka the year range of every song posted in OP
Nostalgia is a hell of a d*** because I remember being a kid and hearing people say this stuff was trash, wasn’t real hip hop, and was a sign of the death of the genre
Mid to late 10s nostalgia is right around the corner
Rappers don't rap and all try to sing with terrible autotune, don't let singers sing hooks anymore, all the beats are 808's heavy, subject matter has about as much range as a closet. None of the music from today's era of rap will be timeless/classic. NONE.
5 years from now the clubs will still be playing 90s, 00s, early 10's hits. These flavor of the month tik Tok "hits" of the last 5-8 years are already forgotten in a week
do you think every single popular song is by osamason or something? what was the subject matter in wobble bro
what most of the songs in the OP have 808s and T-pain's voice is known for the autotune usage. subject matter is not relevant to party songs. yeah bro the range of getting my d*** licked like a candy or dance instructions or put up ur hands or i love this girl is so broad. and its really silly when yall dismiss rappers by the fact their delivery is melodic, like theres nothing wrong with that gang. we have plenty of hits from 8,5,4,3,2 years ago that are all very highly regarded well remembered and classic.
@op everything comes in cycles mehn
Sorry for the late response.
I was busy af but yeah....I think people initially disliked it because it came across too much like a fad that lacked depth to it but we're now in an age where there's a drought of fun rap hits.
We overcorrected instead of having balance like in the early-mid 2010's or late 90's/early 00's.

A lot of the names you listed are from the early to mid 2010s era and earlier (except Doechii & Yeat)
We’re in 2025 and the new wave that’s supposed to change the game hasn’t arrived yet
My point is that theirs nothing wrong with fun rap but if everyone is doing it then it gets old fast.
People want to see lyricism + the fun from these new rappers not just TikTok songs that are here today and gone tomorrow
