we do have prominent lyricists right now. Kendrick lamar, doechii, j cole, tyler the creator are some of the biggest rappers on earth right now. Eminem is still huge. Drake is also known as a great rapper. Rod wave and nba youngboy are known for being vulnerable. Even 21 was vulnerable on his last album, and even yeat on 2093
A lot of the names you listed are from the early to mid 2010s era and earlier (except Doechii & Yeat)
We’re in 2025 and the new wave that’s supposed to change the game hasn’t arrived yet
My point is that theirs nothing wrong with fun rap but if everyone is doing it then it gets old fast.
People want to see lyricism + the fun from these new rappers not just TikTok songs that are here today and gone tomorrow
was jay z or eminem from the mid-late 2000s dawg lol take a wild guess when wayne debuted too. didnt even adress anything else i said, such as the fact the only lyricists u named were at the lowest point in their career at that point or not even present, save for wayne. who was also criticized for lacking substance and making pop songs.
again u didnt adress this but what ur saying is just wrong no one praised the ringtone era for balance that was the exact criticism of the ringtone era and why it was hated was a lack of balance. if your unsatisfied with the "new wave of artists lyricism" gang thats not the topic of the thread, is about a lack of fun/party songs go to the other milllion threads about what ur talking about.

You're doing tricks on it
Brother I’ve been preaching this for awhile now. I unapologetically am biased towards this era because I grew up on this music in my formative years but you hit the nail on the head the music was FUN. I will never dismiss educational, important and purposeful messaging in music and hip hop especially but fun music is just as important in my opinion. Contrast to today where music is starkly more negative in subject matter and another less talked about aspect is really just how un-relatable it can be due to various factors but just to simplify my point look at the clothes and the things that are going on in the videos in OP and compare them to that absolutely unrealistic videos that get made today. It’s almost like the economic status has shifted well beyond what it meant to be an artist and the commercialization has just amplified it to where it’s not even relatable anymore. I think it’s almost become cyclical because yeah music today can just be a “vibe” but it’s kinda whatever whereas a lot of the music during this time was MEMORABLE even if the subject matter was silly. Less relatable = less memorable = a lot of s*** that serves no purpose in today’s landscape but it makes $$$ so it will continue until there is a shift. I hope the newer generations can correct the course and get to enjoy music like we did
if anythign fun came out today they would write 10 thinkpieces about it and cancel the artist on twitter
Its just nostalgia
It's definitely not lol
A verses between the 2 eras would be embarrassing
Show me a fun song

also proves @op point cause tisakorean definitely influenced from that era
