She can but she gotta give credit where it’s due how you try to not credit misery business of all songs bro
taking inspiration doesn't mean they should get 50% of cut, it sets dangerous precedent.
disagree with this, there is only so many chords someone can play their is bound to be similarities
https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/986640217904852993yep. people hated robin thicke because he is kind of a creep and so everyone loved it when marvin gaye's estate sued his ass over that one song. If they weren't so biased tho they would realize that the suit is complete bullshit. inspiration, sampling, referencing, etc is everywhere. "original" just means u don't recognize the influence lol

https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/986640217904852993Yeah this is a common complaint but if the focus is really on the art she should have no problem paying her dues to the og. Too many artists are getting stolen from and not credited, that's f***ed up either side of the fence you're on.
Sets a bad precedent. Rappers reuse others flows all the time, I don't think its worthy of 50% Publishing if any at all
they dont do these lawsuits for rap hits or Future would be the richest rapper ever
the Blurred Lines lawsuit had the worst possible outcome for music as a whole
yep f*** gaye estate for this
Can’t believe ppl disagree with this
It’s blatant
I noticed a lot of s*** flies out the window when it comes to Olivia with the love she has
Like people straight up don’t care about the very same things they’d care about for another artist.
I can't believe we got music "fans" on here that DON'T want to see artists get paid. S***s crazy
Imma keep it a buck I just listened to the song for the first time ever and the s*** was blatant to the point I thought it was a sample and would’ve expected Paramore to already be getting a bag from this…

now that she mentions it, the song does remind me of Misery Business a lot
edit:
!https://youtu.be/YB-rn6f--XY mashing Good 4 u up with Misery Business makes me love Good 4 u even more, it sounds so good.
I love Olivia but she's the pop Logic. This album bit everything that came before it from the promo photos to the genres and themes. She gets a pass because she's young and this is the first album but she better not do this for ever project.
tbf it’s not like anyone invented teen angst. she isn’t stealing her art direction she just happens to get it from the same source as everyone else (Carrie by Stephen king, blue velvet etc). It’s more unoriginal than stealing.
At the same time though, her music influences are worn on her sleeves to the point that it’s almost remaking the same song. on her new album, I don’t think of any of the songs as Olivia rodrigo songs but as remade Taylor swift, lorde, Hayley Williams etc songs
You mean that little b**** tried to get one over on queen Hayley and Paramore?! Ain’t never heard the song but f*** her if true
who remember when Radiohead sued lana cause one of her songs sounded like creep

Other people s*** is essential to the creative process

That’s a good thing. Her white hood ass needed to be checked
Disney Corporation can bankroll the royalties. She isn’t gonna be friends with y’all. Pop fans are so f***ing weird.

idc about this song cause yeah it does sound similar but i am only defending this cause it sets dangerous precedent in the future when labels and management gonna just will be handing out lawsuits to anything which sounds similar. Does are inspiration and vague similarities really enough to earn writing credits and 50% of the money made??
Sour is just an amalgamation of obvious millennial sounds from the early 2000s + Lorde it's actually crazy how well it did for solely relying on nostalgia
