People be talking out they ass just because they don't like a song
It’s actually very well written and carries a great message.
I’d rather listen to HTW than most of today’s songs written about nothing. At least Jackson used his gift to try and better the human race. Not many other artists are the same.
There’s literally countless artists who try to make a positive impact on people and the world with their work, please don’t be reductive of music and artistry as a whole just to prop your favorite up.
Earth Song is a classic. It was number one all over Europe and was a huge hit in the UK - number one for 6 weeks.
Was Earth Song released as a single in the states?

Name them
I don't see many others donating entire tour proceedings to charity etc
good call on mj's part
Sure. given the success all over Europe including six weeks at number one in the UK and it being MJs first ever #1 in Germany
It was a Sony call and the beginning of the end of MJs relationship with them

Charity is nice but that’s not the only measure of using your gift to help people and the world, and I mean it’s not that hard to find other super rich musicians who do some charitable initiatives, but some prefer not to broadcast their charity so we don’t really know, and this shouldn’t turn into some pissing contest of who can do the best public donation to charity
Given the context of the thread I assumed you were speaking more about the messages MJ put in his music and the joy that he gave the world. I can’t make a list because it’s literally countless. Just the other day I saw some no name rapper on Instagram put out a song about the state of the world and it was so clearly passionate and coming from a place of love and concern and wanting to help. To me that’s just as significant as a super rich pop star donating tour proceeds. Same with the person in my avy who is basically penniless but saved my life along with many others.
Kendrick Lamar is one of the most obvious examples today of someone who clearly aims to use their gifts to help the world. But you can go back and point to plenty of others like John Lennon and James Brown and Bob Dylan too. Most early hip hop artists would fall into this category too, they helped give a voice and identity to the f***ed up areas they were from. I would say musicians as a whole are generally people who have empathy and that’s why there’s literally thousands of people who I feel do what you’re talking about. MJ is not an anomaly in this sense. There’s a rich history of music tying in with social issues and it’s silly to try and sell that short, there’s no need to do that to make Michael look good. Even today there are young artists speaking on depression that’s definitely helping the young generation. Just say you don’t like music
Earth song is dope bro leave it be
People debating whether it is a classic or not
Don’t have to post the songs success again but it clearly is. It’s one of MJs greatest hits.
