For screenwriting, is taking a course recommended? Or should I stick to self teaching

Take my course. You’d be student number 1 so lots of focus.

I took two courses in college taught by the guy who wrote Groundhog Day. @ARCADE_GOON is right actually I did have a lot of privilege lol

I remember coming back from break once. There was this weird sort of student (small class) who had a pet pig. We came back and she had shoplifted over break and it became a big story. That’s how I found out she was Rudy Giuliani’s daughter. You can imagine. Tough on crime father. Shoplifter daughter. Hollywood couldn’t script it better

My TikTok is basically gonna be a course in various 60 second videos

No need to get defensive. Thick skin is useful for public personas, I assume. We talked and you reasonably stated your point of view. That is all we could ask from you. Thank you for your responses.

Also I honestly don’t want to be a public persona for obvious and non obvious reasons. Although seeing what it’s done for Hasan does make me reconsider

    A Calm Ye

OP this is just a random bullshit idea you probably hear a million times a day but f*** it.

You know all those conspiracy theories about artists sacrificing their loved ones/friends to make it into the industry? That could make for a fire ass script. Actor/artist on the come up starts doing super f***ed up stuff to get on. There could be something compelling there.

Anyway, thanks again for putting us on game.

Lol I hate those theories but it could be a fun sort of movie or show

People always think someone died for a sacrifice when rappers just have real beef

I did a video on this that maybe I’ll post on YouTube. I hate the Boosie “people in your city just hate you” video because it’s so dumb

Many rappers have done dirt in the streets and it catches up to them

@op You know the movie Drumline right? Now just imagine a spinoff that's the exact same plot but instead of drumming, it's about Nick Cannon's kid going to dental school. It's called Gumline

You think Hollywood would fw this idea?

i watched ep 1 but didn't get it, i saw you interned previously and got the offer pulled for the hf but didnt get how goldman still brought you back. just curious

During the summer they’re onboarding so many people that I think I just slipped through the cracks. By the time they realized it, I was like a year in. I just sort of slipped through the cracks and was like “yeah I’m working on getting them to fix it”

Of course always always always be up front and transparent with any sort of employer or close friends and family about s*** like that and s*** in general. I was young and stupid

You joke but this might have killed in the 90’s. Especially when home video was such a huge market. I often think about how “The Santa Clause” is a movie based entirely on a silly pun and it did $190m box office on a $22m budget. Also had 2 sequels. Puns are big business. Can’t go wrong with puns

Gunline is obviously not a pun, but you’re playing in the right zip code. This is what gets people agents

To contribute to this thread in a different manner: How do you deal with the fact that, in the past few years of the American public conscious, reality has been stranger than fiction?

For example, Donald Trump of all people becoming president - it is seriously weird to think about in hindsight. Or the pandemic ravaging the world as well. Or said gameshow president actually getting infected by said killer virus right before the re-election bid - it would sound cliché on paper if it hadn't had really happened.

I would assume writing comedy in the 90s, where the USA won a Cold War and things seemed prosperous in this country, would have been different than writing comedy in the 2020s - just on the basis of the USA being in a different spot than before.

And more generally, when writing socially conscious comedy: How do you strike a balance between commentary, preaching and comedy? A common critique is that current (stand-up) comedy is more like a secular sermon, like Dave Chappelle's complaint-fests, than the comedy of old.

Thank you, but I'm not joking I've thought about how the scenes in Drumline were shot to make it seem like the actors are actually playing the drums when they're not and how similar techniques could be used for the flossing and dental surgery scenes in Gumline. This one of the few good ideas I've had in my life, tryna get a bag off this fr
