Nigga putting states and countries like it matters. They all under the Chief Keef tree. Every single one of them lmao

Yes. A 16 year old kid changed rap forever. Kind of crazy right?

Putting Pop Smoke under the chief keef tree is just rimboculous

Losing X and Juice lowkey more impactful than PAC and Big dying.

At least they still had Jay and then Em and DMX popped up. And Outkast and Lauryn Hill was still pushing things forward.

X and Juice dying (and Peep to lesser extent) literally killed a whole new sound from developing

Edit: in terms of pushing the culture forward. PAC and Big died and gangsta/bling bling rap still kept flourishing for another 5-7 years.

X and Juice died and Uzi falling off literally killed the emo/rage/SoundCloud era

These high profile rapper deaths didn't keep the scene from flourishing, the shallow talent pool did that. I guess you could say that makes their deaths extremely impactful but, again, it points to larger problems in rap.

And for what it's worth, rap did go through a doldrums period after the death of Pac and Biggie. Nobody looks back on 97-99 that fondly.

    Not that crazy

Nas started making Illmatic when he was 16 too

True. Nas gets credit for it. We’d go as far as calling him a genius. Keef doesn’t get nearly the credit he deserves for that tho.

    Uzi
    X
    Juice

These 3 were gonna be the leaders musically, aesthetically, and culturally for they’re generation just like Drake Kendrick and Cole.

X and Juice dying really f***ed up the game.

And I feel like they’re lack of energy negatively affected Uzi’s artistry cuz he hasn’t touched LIR2 since.

Lil Peep dying plays a part too, say what you want but that emo/rage SoundCloud era was different unique and spoke to a generation just like the blog era spoke to mine

Current era we in has no direction, no narrative. Everyone just putting out projects and songs just cuz

Carti lowkey the only one keeping things interesting.

Culture would’ve been in such a fascinating space with X Uzi Juice Peep and Carti leading the way.

If them niggas was gonna lead the new generation then we was f***ed either way

X was really his generation’s PAC, it was more than just music. He reached and inspired ppl in a deep way

Juice was really like Biggie in that he made great catchy music so effortlessly

Stop comparing every dead rapper to Pac

X was a c00n don't put him the breath of someone who fought for black liberation even before fame

I agree with your first point about the pool of talent being shallower that’s why X and Juice dying pretty killed the SoundCloud/Rolling Loud emo wave

I disagree about 97-99 thou. Big and PAC dying allowed new artists and existing artist to flourish

Jay Em DMX Outkast Lauryn Hill Big Pun all reached new levels during that time

Only point I’ve been tryna make this whole time.

The current big 3 bridged the gap. I think it’s difficult to pinpoint who is going to be the next big 3 because they all don’t really got bars like that so there’s a lot of niggas that aren’t gonna really give ‘em tgat credit. Especially if they drop a dud.

Bro PAC’s death impacted in the form of literally every black male artist from 1998-2003/4 being required to be hyper masculine and sexual in some overt way in order to be huge - and not just rap, I do mean every black male artist

And even further, rappers like DMX/Ja/Em/50 are examples of PAC’s direct influence

    This kinda proves my point

The kind of image and music PAC and Big made continue to be at the forefront of hip hop

X Juice and also Peep dying literally killed the emo SoundCloud wave

That’s what I mean by more impact.

if it weren't for Pac, gangster rap as we know it wouldn't even exist, and honestly the world would probably be better for it

Pac was more conscious than gangster though. He rapped way more about real life, Black issues, and about his mental state than he did stereotypical gangster stuff.

Ironically, Biggie's raps were way more grimy and gangster than Pac's. Biggie even rapped about raping and robbing people whereas Pac rarely took it that far.
