If we're keeping it 100, redundant trap beats and bloated albums with no artistic vision hurt today's hip hop way more than Ye and Em ever did.
It's just that rap fans love to dunk on the OG's to seem "cool" and "in tune with the culture."
Hip Hop is the GOAT genre when it comes to discrediting its own musical pioneers.
There's gonna be a Jay-Z and Tupac hate thread next week. Just watch.
yeah i always found it strange how legends and GOATs in hip-hop would always get s*** on while even in s*** like rock, old bands like Queen or Metallica are held in high regards even though the latter has been shoveling out s*** for quite awhile
uzi is undeniably talented
they wouldn’t ever admit that s*** about them opium niggas though tbh since they’re affiliated with Carti
we even had dudes batting for Desiigner once upon a time because Kanye tried to put him on or whatever, it’s just mindless d***riding
The production on this song is crazy tho

The key change
niggas so mad at op im crying
I mean when you linking songs from Tom Macdonald to make your point lmaooo
The convo no one wants to have because they don’t wanna be called old lol
these Niggas are gonna be like lil pump lil skies smokepurp in 2-3 years like lil Uzi vert is slowly turning into before our eyes lol as soon as the next “thing” makes them look outdated and they have no foundational rap talent, just as Ken lonely and Yeat types did to the lil pump smokepurp types
Comparing Yeat and Opium to smoke Purrp and Lil Pump just don’t sit right with me ngl.
Lil Pump was always a meme and Smoke Purrp was never all that. Yeat and them are actually respected by the previous generation like Drake and them
I mean when you linking songs from Tom Macdonald to make your point lmaooo
There is no Donda 2
Nah don't give me that. Ye sxn was d*** riding Donda 2 release through the s***ty flesh light device as an actual release

Uzi is having a mini crisis tho in the sense that it seems like he’s indecisive when it comes to his music and album releases

Uzi has had his moments for sure but he’s been lost and jumping from aesthetic to aesthetic since Eternal Atake because he doesn’t fundamentally know how to make a strong rap album that doesn’t rely on trap gimmicks
It’s time we start keeping s*** all the way real again I’m sorry. I definitely also have love for s*** like Paradise and the Scott pilgrim cover art tapes too tho. It’s a beautiful shot, and the Lakers are up, but as 21+ niggas in this rap s*** we #must #compartmentalize and just rate s*** at its appropriate level lol

Uzi is having a mini crisis tho in the sense that it seems like he’s indecisive when it comes to his music and album releases
He’s stuck trying to recreate his 2016-17 s***. Everyone else moved on. In a vacuum Uzi has the talent but he’s trying to hard to please his fans
Uzi is having a mini crisis tho in the sense that it seems like he’s indecisive when it comes to his music and album releases
yeah i think Uzi wanted to be seen as a dude with mystique/a super artsy guy or some s*** instead of what he actually is (a hitmaker) so he’s pretty much just lost in the sauce at this stage lol
s*** sucks
It’s aggrevating to see people try and diagnose it as anything else
Made a thread about Earl saying f*** his style to make generic BNYX songs and niggas I know are older than 23-25 telling me I’m tripping. We’re cooked because everyone just turning into cosplay of each other. Ye is kinda falling into that too but man at least he’ll give you beat switches and maximalist features and he’s certainly not an influence for people doing that. He just old his damn self trying to fit in like people who don’t wanna straight call the after effect of that rage opium or even street etc type music what it is
Exactly.
Rap fans today will write a whole nigga's musical catalog off over 2 mid albums.
Even young rappers aren't exempt from it. Remember how much hate Roddy got for his 2nd album?
It's like today's rap fans are bigger fans of narratives than anything else just like with many modern NBA fans.
Niggas are just waiting for Nas, Jay, Wayne, Andre, etc. to drop duds just so they can say how trash they are and discredit their entire music catalog.
Meanwhile, Rock fans will let their bands drop plenty of flops and duds and still respect their legacies.
I don't mind people hating Kanye the person. Not at all. But acting like his later output is so unlistenable compared to today's rap is just a forced narrative. Ditto for Eminem's later output.
Imho, Ye and Em's only true duds were JIK and Revival. Ye and Kamikaze weren't good but weren't bad either. Just "meh" albums with some highlights. But OP will act like their the worst sounding albums on Earth while hyping up the next trap/drill/rage album as a groundbreaking masterpiece lol.

you know what the kicker is? Vultures sounds better than a lot of that generic trap s*** but mfs wanna complain about it because… they just hate Kanye lmao

They don’t do it for Wayne tho he been dropping trash & mid
I see what you're getting at, but the Logics of rap would still be there if Eminem stopped releasing music. Maybe if you retroactively erased his discography, but his influence will always be there.
And I just feel rap is a right wing genre. The bragging about wealth and material possessions is very easy for the right to co-opt, with or without Kanye. And Kanye's persona has far surpassed his music. He can never drop again and still have the influence he does
yeah i think Uzi wanted to be seen as a dude with mystique/a super artsy guy or some s*** instead of what he actually is (a hitmaker) so he’s pretty much just lost in the sauce at this stage lol
s*** sucks
Def, we shoulda seen it coming when bro mentioned GG Allin as his biggest inspiration lol
Uzi is having a mini crisis tho in the sense that it seems like he’s indecisive when it comes to his music and album releases
“My Bwah” tryna switch his voice to sound southern and all
That boy get round some Carolina/Atlanta niggas and turn into a Southern Style Chicken Sandwich
They don’t do it for Wayne tho he been dropping trash & mid
nigga Wayne got dragged through hell and back for about 5+ years post-No Ceilings
it’s just relatively recently niggas started letting him slide/giving him flowers
you know what the kicker is? Vultures sounds better than a lot of that generic trap s*** but mfs wanna complain about it because… they just hate Kanye lmao
That was my initial thought too. s***s a clean ass minimalist take on that sound

I’m not talking bout the
"If 2Pac was alive Lil Wayne would be working at McDonalds" era lol
Ppl have high expectations for Drake & Ye whenever they drop something and are ready to discredit them as artists.
Comparing Yeat and Opium to smoke Purrp and Lil Pump just don’t sit right with me ngl.
Lil Pump was always a meme and Smoke Purrp was never all that. Yeat and them are actually respected by the previous generation like Drake and them
to be very fair, Lil Pump and the first wave of artists doing that type of music were so out of what we were used to that I don’t think Drake got it at the time. Cole even admitted to this in the yachty interview. But guys like Trippie, Pump, Peep, X, etc walked so these new guys were accepted to a certain extent. (Coming from someone that never liked Pump unironically btw)
Production
Vocal delivery
Flows and melodies
Still manage to have quotables and memorable lines despite not being lyrical rappers.
I understand why people might not like it but fw them heavy. Especially Yeat
im sorry but all have the same production on every single record 😭😭. this isn’t an exaggeration like people do for other artist. they legit have used the same beats on multiple occasions on multiple songs.
their delivery is them rapping off beat, slurring, gunna flow, squealing, and just gibberish sometimes.
you gotta stop man. PLEASE BRO.
They don’t do it for Wayne tho he been dropping trash & mid
Disagree.
But, at the same time, Wayne gets less hate than he did during the 09-13 era.
That era was a nightmare for Wayne fans like myself.
Exactly.

That narrative of a rapper dropping a mid album so he’s done and can never bounce back always pissed me off lol
Even back in 08 when 808s dropped people hated it but let Ye bounce back with MBDTF lol it feels like that wouldn’t happen now
And also writing off an artists legacy because their newer s*** always been dumb to me.
When people debate MJ Vs Lebron they’re not talking about their later runs they’re talking about their primes lol
I’m not talking bout the
"If 2Pac was alive Lil Wayne would be working at McDonalds" era lol
Ppl have high expectations for Drake & Ye whenever they drop something and are ready to discredit them as artists.
i know what you’re talking about lol, the discourse around Wayne was far from positive until he dropped C5 dawg
you’re forgetting that nigga dropped No Ceilings 2 and IANAHBII during that timeframe, niggas were hating on him that entire time dawg
They don’t do it for Wayne tho he been dropping trash & mid
That’s the thing that’s been confusing if you were like in high school before 2016 lol
The standards of what people consider bars from certain people like Veeze or karrahboo, Wayne and Big Sean was getting killed for in 2011 lol
The standards dropped honestly a lot in 2016 when that XXL freshman cover style of rap took over / Migos - Culture
