Rap scene has always been too obsessed with caring about what the “streets” are playing or what’s getting played in clubs

no disrespect but pretty much nobody knows this guy

  • Mar 6, 2023

kendrick has really only made one and a half albums that you can even really safely play at a function in his major label career, the clubs or the “streets” have never been his intention and it’s a dumb f***ing metric that only old ass reductive niggas like this guy use 2 measure rap quality lmao

Too old for it. (or at least that's what most people would think!)

Causing some problems with the youth for sure, but can't really judge them for that. They're mostly just following eachother and what's trendy.

Social media and social networking probably needs to regulated at some point.

But what does this have to with this thread?

    You think so?

What would you consider to be TikTok vibes when it comes to music?

That rapper sounded more just like Kendrick than anyone else! (Unless Kendrick is now TikTok music?)

Unfortunately it’s been like this since the beginning of hip-hop.

When grandmaster flash and Melle Mel was coming up hip-hop was BORN from being played at clubs and parties , barber shops etc. That was how the sound would spread and they’d gain popularity. And it was literally the ONLY way to experience hip-hop at the time.

So in summary Hip-hop and clubbing share very old and very close origins.

However it is NOT 1987 in the Bronx anymore, music being a played at a party or venue is irrelevant to its impact on the culture. Back then hip-hop wasn’t played on the radio, you were forced to listen to what the streets was bumpin to be able to determine if it’s good music or not . Extremely old school and outdated way of thinking in 2023

The amount of skill it takes to be able to rap like Kendrick and Em plays a huge part in why its not emulated as much. Its a style of rap that can get you to the number 1 or you might stay underground your whole life so breaking through with that style is almost impossible.

Street rap, swag rap, mumble rap have way more intangibles other then skill that play a role on how popular you can get. Wich makes it easier to emulate and breakthrough.

niggas say this like kendrick supposed to give af. he’s very aware of the type of music he makes lol also who tf is melle mel?

  • Mar 6, 2023

The street element is also very important and y'all take it way too literal when people say that.

If you are a outgoing person meaning you will go to the clubs every weekend or every other weekend. You do hangouts with friend groups, Air bnb's and take trips abroad or to other city's the music that is being played during those outings shape a lot of your core memories and influence your opinion on what is ''popping'' and what is not.

even you don’t believe that. there’s a reason why he’s never mentioned in top 20 convos and he’s doing bootleg vlad interviews for relevance

Right lmao. Nobody judges rock based on what bands/songs you hear at parties. Rap not even exclusively a club genre

well hip hop started as party music and back then the best mcs were the ones who could rock the crowd the best, so its fair for that to still be the criteria imo

  • Mac Wit Da Cheese

You can be influenced by someone and not sound like them

This. A lot of people think influence mean you get clones when it’s more to it than that.

  • Mar 6, 2023

Eminem flow is still unfollowable to me, would be dope to be able to rap like that.

  • StackieChan

And Kendrick checks that list any time his more mainstream songs are played
