TL;DR For everyone who doesn't feel like reading all of this: The DMV has been incredibly influential the last few years in terms of rap, you could possibly even argue that they are more influential than Hoodrich Pablo, however if you are talking about ORIGINS, they trace back to Atlanta no matter how you look at it. Mixtape/album dates back this. If you go back and listen to different artists' projects you will come to the same conclusion. You can even find traces of these flows from before Pablo if you listen to rappers like Migos, Peewee Longway, and Rich The Kid

Punch in flows are currently a major staple in these four areas right now: Atlanta, DMV, Detroit, and some parts of California, but is used all over the world. The specific flow that is commonly used by Atlanta and DMV rappers is often referred to as the "DMV flow" formerly primarily referred to as the "MPR" or "Hoodrich flow." The change in name began in the 2016-2017ish time period when it became popular within the majority of up & coming DMV trap rappers.

For those unfamiliar with what MPR (Money Power Respect) is, it is a group/label started by Hoodrich Pablo Juan. There are a lot of members but the original rapper lineup it was most known for was Pablo, D***rixh Peso, D***rixh Hect, Scarfo Da Plug (by D***rixh affiliation) and eventually Lil Dude. Goonew was also a popular MPR member but by the time he joined MPR was out of it's glory days due to D***rixh Peso leaving and D***rixh Hect getting locked up. The split between the rappers is also probably why the flow became less known as the "MPR flow" and more known as the "DMV flow," especially with Lil Dude and Goonew being DMV rappers.

A common user of this flow on a mainstream level is Lil Uzi Vert, who has used it on popular songs like Free Uzi, Rich Forever Leaked, Dip (Remix) and I think some songs on the first six tracks of EA. For more info on Lil Uzi's use of this and how it traces back to the DMV you can view a thread I made on KTT1: kanyetothe.com/forum/index.php?topic=8182585.0

So let's get into some of the symbols of Hoodrich Pablo's flow:

Finishing a bar 1/4 early or late
So anyone who listens to Hoodrich Pablo probably knows that this is a huge staple of his flow. This was actually a semi-common thing you may have heard in Migos or Peewee Longway music in 2014-2015 before becoming a popular part of Pablo's flow. Rich The Kid also used to use it more commonly. Each beat is split into bars and every bar is split into 4s. Pablo varies how long the bar is a lot which has sometimes been misinterpreted as him rapping off beat. However, since the rhyming word is still hitting and it's just 1/4 early or late, it's technically still on beat. You can hear examples of this in the homonyms section below:

    Homonyms

    Examples:

Drugrixh Hect - Bags (feat. D***rixh Peso & Hoodrich Pablo Juan)

Gotta meet the plug out in A.C. (Atlantic City)

In the bando with no heat or A.C. (air conditioner)

    D***rixh Peso - Take a Risk

Shrimp and steak nigga when I eat a meal

Chasin' the cash, I want to see a mil'

Q Da Fool - Leave Ya

I get more throat than a Halls (cough drops)

Skipped school, I was tired skippin' in the halls

    Duwap Kaine - Category

    More guns than the Navy

YSL and you still rockin' Old Navy

If you listen to these songs, you can hear the MPR influence in the flows. Even the flows used in just these bars feature signature MPR-styled flows and the delivery on the lines is even almost identical. Obviously Pablo didn't invent the use of homonyms or rhyming with the same word in rap, but he did make something that can be seen as taboo in hip-hop if used incorrectly the cool thing to do.

    Drugrixh Peso's hyper agressive flow:

In Peso's debut mixtape, Drugrixh, he also debuted a flow that can be described as hyper aggressive and even hysterical at times. This flow hasn't made a significant appearance of Peso's work since Drugrixh 2, but can still be found on some of his features and loosies.

Notable DMV rapper would be an example of someone who's style may have been inspired by Peso's. Q Da Fool always had loud and belligerent flows, but they began to sound much more rough after this mixtape.

You can hear it on songs like:

    Q Da Fool - Trap S***

Hoodrich Pablo using the whisper flow that is nowadays known as Goonew's flow in as early as May 2015 (2:02):

    0:00 or 1:55

1:57 + great opening bar from him lmao

(Shoutout to Soulja Boy, one of the early adopters of this flow/the Migos flow in general, might talk about him in a post later)

The Relationship Between DMV and MPR
The relationship between the DMV and Hoodrich/MPR was overall great up until early 2017 when Lil Dude signed to MPR due to Lil Dude's pre-existing beef with a few of the other major DMV trap rappers. Rappers remained cool with D***rixh and Scarfo. Hoodrich and D***rixh overall have songs with many DMV rappers like Shabazz PBG, Rico Nasty, Lil Dude, Goonew, Jazz Swerve, Big Flock, WillThaRapper, and more. Scarfo still makes music with DMV artists and continues to have a good relationship with them.

Here are some examples of DMV rappers showing love to Pablo on social media.

    Q Da Fool:

Goonew and Lil Dude self explanatory (former MPR rappers)

    Shabazz PBG:

    Tweeting lyrics from D***rixh Hect's "OG's" feat. Hoodrich Pablo & D***rixh Peso

    Rico Nasty:

    Lil Gray:

DMV rappers saying that Pablo started the flow

Ayeek (Rich Shootas member) stating that Pablo is "sonning" DMV rappers:

Big Flock stating early in Pablo's popularity that people were already starting to sound like him:

Xanman said in his No Jumper interview that Pablo was the first person he heard used it (8:28)

DMV rappers mentioning Hoodrich/Drugrixh in songs:
"I got rich in my hood like I'm Pablo" - Trapsquad Dulli on Trapsquad Lal's Almighty Remix (0:27)

    "Q Da Fool D***rixh, no I'm not Peso" - Freestyle (1:04)

"In the trenches, D***rixh, like Peso" - Clientele - Shabazz PBG

"Drugrixh now I'm feelin' like Peso" - Get Back by Xanman

    --
    Hoodrich Kickstand
Hoodrich Pablo's blood older brother. I suspect that he may have influenced the rough voices and deliveries that rappers like Shabazz PBG use. Shabazz didn't use it earlier in 2015 on songs like this:

Here's an example of Shabazz PBG using the more hoarse tone that he got known for ⬇:

⬇ Hoodrich Kickstand using a similar delivery in 2015 ⬇

*Addressing and Interpreting Pablo's No Jumper Interview
In Pablo's most recent No Jumper interview Adam22 asks Pablo about his relationship with the DMV and how the flow came about. Pablo goes on to explain that he doesn't accuse people of using his flow and then later says that he did get a lot from the DMV. In all of the interviews he's asked about his flow dating back to 2016 he refers to it as his flow while also saying that he understands why other people use it and that he doesn't mind it. Just clarifying it since his response is misinterpreted as him saying he got his flow from the DMV even though in the same answer he said he doesn't mind that other rappers use HIS flow

Clarification: By "punch in flows" I mean flows where it is very evident and audible that they are punching in, usually used as a style

    DMV: (D.C., Maryland, Virginia)

He immediately goes on to say "but I'm not the type of person that's big on credit" referring to people using HIS flow

He gives the same answer in this interview back when the flow was primarily known as the Hoodrich flow

He most likely misinterpreted what Adam22 was trying to say/ask
