TL;DR For everyone who doesn't feel like reading all of this: The DMV has been incredibly influential the last few years in terms of rap, you could possibly even argue that they are more influential than Hoodrich Pablo, however if you are talking about ORIGINS, they trace back to Atlanta no matter how you look at it. Mixtape/album dates back this. If you go back and listen to different artists' projects you will come to the same conclusion. You can even find traces of these flows from before Pablo if you listen to rappers like Migos, Peewee Longway, and Rich The Kid
Punch in flows are currently a major staple in these four areas right now: Atlanta, DMV, Detroit, and some parts of California, but is used all over the world. The specific flow that is commonly used by Atlanta and DMV rappers is often referred to as the "DMV flow" formerly primarily referred to as the "MPR" or "Hoodrich flow." The change in name began in the 2016-2017ish time period when it became popular within the majority of up & coming DMV trap rappers.
For those unfamiliar with what MPR (Money Power Respect) is, it is a group/label started by Hoodrich Pablo Juan. There are a lot of members but the original rapper lineup it was most known for was Pablo, D***rixh Peso, D***rixh Hect, Scarfo Da Plug (by D***rixh affiliation) and eventually Lil Dude. Goonew was also a popular MPR member but by the time he joined MPR was out of it's glory days due to D***rixh Peso leaving and D***rixh Hect getting locked up. The split between the rappers is also probably why the flow became less known as the "MPR flow" and more known as the "DMV flow," especially with Lil Dude and Goonew being DMV rappers.
lol which parts of california tho ion really think theres any cali scene that uses it heavily
