First game is in my top 5 favorite games of all time and thought a sequel was super unnecessary considering the way the first game ended. Totally understand people hating the game but loved the direction they took the story in. Playing as abby was super harrowing and threw me for a f***ing loop. Not surprised at Joel's feet at the beginning of the game and was one of the most emotional cutscenes I've seen. Parallels of Abby/Lev and Joel/Ellie really made me question my unbridled hatred for Abby and and shocked at how much I symphatized with her by end of the game and the set pieces gameplay wise of Ellie and Abby's sections was perfect combination of Uncharted and first Last of Us game. Was feeling at 8/10 on first impressions but after sitting on it for a month honestly feeling 10/10. Also starting to view Last of us 1 and 2 as part of one continuous story instead of of two games. Feel like retrospective of this game in like 8 years will be looked upon better.

Just got a PS4 not a full week ago and I installed most popular games I could

Last of Us is perfect although I don't understand how the zombies can't see my flashlight (not talking about Clickers)

So I'm saving up for Last of Us 2 & Tsushima

Gameplay wise and set piece/graphics wise it's top tier
Story wise, there's gripes with it that made it worse than the first for me but it wasn't too bad like how people say who hated it imo.

People went in with preconceived notions and railed so hard against the game due to leaked spoilers (many of them fake) that they couldn’t save face because otherwise they’d have to admit how f***ing embarrassing their initial reaction was.

Or they went in with the intention of hating it, and refused to engage with its narrative, thus creating a surface level viewing of it and being dense in their interpretations.

Then, you know, there’s the sexism and homophobia angle.

Then there’s also the phenomenon of people claiming that they want to be challenged by narrative, and want stories to have consequences, but in reality they just want the illusion of consequences, and for everything to right itself by the end.

It’s amazing how much this game really f***ed a lot of people up on multiple levels, even professional game critics.

you are so lucky. experiencing this game for the first time is something else man.

Yeah. It's more flawed than the first imo, but more enjoyable, ambitious, and an overall better game and playing experience.

Objectively level design and general gameplay is way better in 2. Storywise it's more of the same so if you like the first one and are unbiased about anything else you should like 2
