I mean if anything, doesn't the discussion itt prove The Weeknd to be the superior artist to Bruno
The Weeknd's (imma bout to drop the s word ktt) SONIC journey is far more complex than Bruno's - hence why it's so difficult to characterise his earlier music to a single genre
Not only that, but his artistic progression, his successful evolution from alt r&b to a pop superstar highlights his range and talent

It's just weird to compare them in that way because objectively Bruno can run circles around Abel musically. Dude dances, plays drums, guitar, sings, all with ease
IMO Abel's music is a lot more interesting to listen to though which is a completely different argument. Bruno's music is great but it ALWAYS sounded like he was relishing on the past and never really made any forward sounding music. Whereas Abel has pushed the boundaries of music his entire career...can you really say the same for Bruno?
then what is? I'm not saying structure is but pop music is not defined by any sort of sound as history (and this thread) would tell you
The sound of pop has always changed with the times but on a broad sense its always been tailored for accessibility and commercial appeal, thats the main qualifier imo
Obviously subjective since some ppl can listen to hob and feel as if its made with commercial appeal in mind but the context of what sounds are popular at the time (or have already proven to be popular) is important too.

Yeah you're totally right someone ITT brought that up earlier
But something that people tend to not understand is that the structure is directly what makes it so accessible. The verse - chorus - verse - chorus structure is what makes it so accessible due to the repeating nature of the chorus and verses
That's why Wicked Games (and any pop song really) blows up, because it's easy to repeat and sing along to it, that's due to the structure and many other things, not JUST the structure.
They brought up how Tuscan Leather never caught on with the GP like HOWGH did, and that's because of the accessibility of the song's structure.
But really at the end of the day it's all subjective so all this is just talk tbh
Alternative R&B
Art pop and alternative rnb are the most diverse genres of all time. Just throw everything artsy in there
This sounds like a pop song thats played in malls in 2050
normal pop song with a dark twist
It was always a pop album, but if a black singer isn’t doing radio dance pop they’re automatically labeled as r&b
The only unambiguously r&b song out of the nine songs is What You Need, while the rest merely infuse r&b influence along with a mishmash of other genres in each musical aspect - vocals, melodies, chords, production - in a fashion that renders the main genre ambiguous of those songs; thus it is pop by musical ethos (separate from pop as in popular)
Na its rnb
Pop music can be rock music
Pop music can be R&B music
Pop music can be electronic music
Ffs pop music WAS rock music for the longest time
he knows ball. @shaleirose

All this and Bruno still factually more talented lmao
Yikes
Yikes
he’s only saying that because Weeknd got MJ comparisons lol
dude did similar shtick with Beyonce, that’s standom for ya
I am. He's not
The Weeknd will always be my #1, but truthfully, there is no world where Bruno Mars is less talented than The Weeknd.
I think The Weeknd makes better music than Bruno Mars 100%, but in terms of pure, raw talent? Bruno has got him beat in pretty much every category.

Bruno's a more talented traditional vocalist, that's it. The Weeknd's music is 10x better and not just sweating the same bullshit pop music from 1984

He’s also a more talented dancer, instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter.
I agree that Bruno doesn’t use his talents on wax to the best of his abilities (actually don’t really agree with this, I just don’t think you like the kind of music he makes, which is fine), but if you’ve ever seen him live or watched a performance of his it’s really not close.
