Should be free for anyone. The type of meal that was free during the great depression soup lines.

It's cause of the US sanctions that not everything is available. That's why people talk bad about it

    Not the cuisine itself

What kind of ingredients are unique to Cuba that you can’t get in America cause of sanctions

  • Here for shenanigans

  • americana

Btw it’s because British colonialism caused spices to become so common that they were seen as lower class taste palettes by the aristocracy so they went backwards to flavorless food

Cuban is literally one of the tastiest cuisines

This is a big part of it. The way class/caste systems were seen in the old world was damn near absolute. Even some thing as basic as getting doctors to wash their hands before surgery, was a big undertaking, because many doctors didn’t perceive themselves as “dirty” or low class.

  • RICHAXXVOYCE

I’m pretty sure it’s pure pride. We conquered the world but flavor or no flavor we will eat OUR food.

apart from fish n chips once in a while

    Really does make you think

How do you have colonies all over the world

And end up with the worst food in the world

So funny thing is that Japan and Britain follow the same parallel with bland food.

Britain did conquer spices and sold it for profit, but it was considered poor food since it was used to cover up nasty ass british food that was moldy or spoiled.

Royalty took the notion that plain or bland food that focused on the quality of good ingredients was a sign of wealth. I mean a good chicken thigh or sausage is still good food if raised with quality output in mind.

That line of thinking spread to the masses making sure that other culture's food doesn't seep into british culture.

Japan kinda has a similar story since they are an island that eats off of great fish, so spices is kinda like insulting to the quality of the food there. Their contrast is Korea who invented kimchi to survive harsh winters.

Mfs conqured half the world just to invent beans on toast
