Sounds like bad parenting to me
A lot of stuff slips through the cracks on YouTube and kids see/hear all types of s*** they shouldn’t.
So what? No YouTube at all? Or do you mean you intend to monitor your child’s watch list every time they want to watch? legitimately asking not tryna be a contrarian

Just being a parent and not letting youtube parent your child in general.
Of course s*** slips through the cracks that’s what curiosity is for but it’s up to parents yo at the very least give the basic guidance to these kids.

I totally agree with you. My parents basically let the TV raise me but the difference between that and YouTube is the FCC and similar entities lmao
Beyond the age inappropriate content though I’ve noticed YouTube content for kids is very complimentary to the instant gratification culture we live in. Videos with ‘stories’ just hop from one plot point to another. Let’s Play’s skip through most of the games to get to the big moments (not to mention the optics and influence of watching grown men sitting in their rooms alone screeching into the void as entertainment lmao). CocoMelon is literally just nursery rhymes with weird and cheap animation.
There’s very few content creators that show they actually give a f*** that they’re helping to shape the minds of the youth. Which is worrisome for me. 👀

What are some solutions to these problems?

Oh buddy I have no f***ing clue besides YouTubers hitting an enlightenment period where self accountability becomes more common lmao
That’s why i usually partake in these topics, cause im looking for answers myself since I work with kids daily and YouTube is very much a hindrance in my life lol

It’s all about money man, don’t nobody give a f*** about them kids
Unfortunately
Parents bought their kids tablets and iPhones to keep those lil f***ers distracted so mom can go out to brunch with her girls and dad can just grill
A LOT of it comes down to the parents, but I think we all know life isn’t that black and white. Some people are in situations where they lack resources to even know how to be a proper parent

This the type of brain rot I have to watch on a daily basis

I was kinda joking about my comment up there so I went to socialblade to see wtf a CocoMelon was
$7M - $112.4M
ESTIMATED YEARLY EARNINGS
bruh
But you’re absolutely right, it comes down to parenting and resources being properly allocated in the communities that need them the most. I can’t imagine just giving my kids a tablet and letting them do whatever the f*** they want but sadly that’s just a reality for some folks.

I think my son has shown me a few of these videos. They mostly seem harmless but like anything can become addicting.
As much as people talk bad about YouTube, it actually has a lot of amazing content on there. A lot of very informative information that is useful in the real world, but content like this will always have more views.
You can genuinely learn how to build a f***ing house from the ground up, but what kid wants to learn such a thing at a young age
i definitely think it’s a bad thing that we’re increasingly isolated from one another and raised on media but idk i feel like being raised on tv like most of us were isnt any better

CocoMelon is on some crazy psychological warfare s*** too where they make their animation bubbly like Disney and have all types of cutesy sound cues in their videos to keep kids watching lmao I hate them bro
There’s so many factors that go into parenting. Some people are single parents and have to work nonstop to keep their kid fed, some people have a lack of understanding w reinforcement and don’t know how to properly dole out tablet time so it doesn’t become a dependency, some simply don’t see the harm in it, some people might let others babysit their kids who are more lenient w tablets which might develop certain watching habits, etc
Like I think a solid communication base with your child is super crucial in this whole ordeal but we can’t even get there til we address all these problems that make it so a lot of parents can’t even be parents
Because we’re all busted one way or another.
In our case, our parents are the ones who f***ed us up.

You seem very well educated and like you have a genuine concern for what’s going on, seems pretty rare these days. Salute.
What do you think the root cause of all of this is? Is it just how easily accessible all of this content is or is it something like lack of religion in households? I don’t remember s*** being such a problem when I was a kid but then again, I was a kid lol

The reason I think those types of videos are toxic is because it feeds into instant gratification (good in small doses, bad in large). There’s no time for the story or characters to develop, there’s not even time for a life lesson. It’s just plot point to plot point to plot point. Even Dora has life lessons in it lmao this is just a story for the sake of being a story. Completely pointless for a child’s development imo you could show them 1000000000 other stories with actual meaning and lessons to take away from it lol
YouTube is amazing overall though, I’m totally on that boat too. I’ve been on an insane video essays about Lost kick lately. I just wish content creators that advertise to kids had even a little more self awareness.
