i'm really interested in how people found their look. for me, i just kinda have an "ideal self" of sorts that i look to when mulling over what my next piece is gonna be. how is it for y'all?
Initially chased trends , then lost my luggage on a trip that was the turning point for me.I bought basics and learn't about proportions for my body, that changed everything.I still make mistakes but i always experiment with colour and silhouettes and just got interested in learning about style.
I Just kept the tapered jeans from the early 2010s When I used to go get them tailored as a teenager. KTT told me the trick to the stacks

From seeing different stuff online and buying magazines
My homie put me onto LRG/Karmaloop/PLNDR/Jack Threads. Bought from there/thrifting for a few years. Even though almost all of those fits were bad and far from my style now (love for color was consistent though) it was what laid my foundation
Colors really started grounding reality for me at some point and I wanted to be able to pull from a large reservoir of em for my style. Wanted to be able to emulate all the great colors I'd see just being outside but needed more knowledge in terms of what clothes to pull from.
And that's where discourse here/people I've met off of here/friends that I've made elsewhere that are into clothes play a huge part.

when i started taking style seriously and did a survey of my wardrobe I realized I had too many statement pieces and not enough essential/versatile pieces, so that's a start.
from there determine what color season you are to add color variations to your fit that are different from the neutrals. that is, assuming you have the essentials already.
after that it's really up to you to experiment, reading some books on male fashion history is also good to see which looks you like and you can either emulate them or put your own individual spin on things.
good luck!
wore black until i got skinny, still wear black but not as often
Trial and error with the help of an old ktt member Dan who was nice enough to take a lot of time educating me and suggesting pieces and styles to me.
Now I know all I need to really.
My family is pretty sentimental about random objects so I like a lot of lived in clothes (never pre distressed), i still wear handmedowns from my cousins and brother who are like 7 years older than me (im 24 now lol) and a big part of that plays into my fondness for slightly ill fitting and oversized stuff.
All started in 2012 with this section for me tbh
When you dropping that fit
Playing basketball in middle and high school got me really into shoes like Jordans and Nike Basketball. After a year or so looking on YouTube for sneaker releases I ended up in a little hypebeast phase where I was more interested in the clothes (Supreme, Fear of God, basically anything Kanye wore in 2016 or so). After that, the YouTube rabbit hole eventually led me to Sangiev, Avery Ginsberg, Whoisjacov, Fernando Rangel, and Kyron Warrick, who put me on to enough brands to develop my own taste.
When you dropping that fit
I haven’t had a reason to dress up. It’s been straight basketball shorts and graphic tees, hot as f*** here in ny
combination of developing your taste level and understanding proportions and what looks good on you
-buy what you like
-wear it out
-realize how stupid you look
-repeat
eventually you will develop a sense of what looks good on you and what doesn’t
It just kinda hit me one day tbh. After a while you know what clothes look good on you and what doesn't.
