I guess I have just come to expect experimentation from Kanye. I never listen to an album like 808s or Yeezus and feel like it’s so outta box that it’s not in his realm. Is it just because he is that great at music so he makes everything sound good?

If your core fans like it or if people buy/stream first week just because of the name. Also if you could manage to get a hit or two off of it.

Both of those albums were heavily polarizing when they first released as well too. They’re just very good and stood the test of time.

He has lost commercial viability to an extent. He hasn't gotten a notable hit since how long?

His albums will always do nice numbers because he has a huge cult/fanbase regardless.

I never heard that song anywhere and it didn't do any notable numbers so I'm not sure about that.

He will probably never have a billboard top 10 hit again so he for sure has lost commercial viability. The album sales will do good because of the equity he has build with his fans but to the mainstream Ye is irrelevant

I was too young to remember the early projects from Ye but I will say the ppl itt saying him not having any recent notable hits are forgetting

    1) he’s a legacy act first and foremost, and people forget the fact that he constantly gets put into the convo with current rappers is noteworthy in itself

Not because of his experimentation though. And it’s been almost 20 years of there will be some drop off

It is kind of crazy he was able to drop 808s and Yeezus without flopping

This makes sense. I think Yeezus has hits as well. Cultural hits though.
