like genuinely what's the play? if you managed someone super talented how would you be advising them to go about it in this f***ed ass landscape that done existed for a minute? been thinking about this lately, what do yall think
Soundcloud is dead now. I think the only chance for new artists to get more attention is to go viral on Tiktok
Get hot enough for someone to quietly sign you then use their budget to look like you organically rose
Aside from that Social media metrics is everything so the playing field is kinda evened in that its just a free for all for who can get the most views/streams/etc lol

yeap, soundcloud is dead as f***. it's a shame really because It was really cool how it was a music centric platform, whereas now artists have to constantly consider visuals instead of just being able to throw heat on soundcloud. music by itself doesn't seem to stand much of a chance for the average brain fried internet user anymore, you need cool visuals as a bare minimum and that sucks
This is the era of spectacle
There is so much content that only the wildest s*** rises above the noise and gets attention
That being said you have to dress wild and or act wild be in a bunch of drama have a s*** ton of jewelry and be attractive (if female) for people to even look your way and care about what you are doing
UNLESS you are INSANELY talented, like 1 of 1 talented. You won’t get attention being basic and just being “aight”, not happening lol
TikTok, IG reels, and YouTube shorts are the game now
need either something instantly catchy or pleasing to the ear to lead to thought provocation
i would look at trending videos on these spaces with the hashtags you plan on using and use that as a blueprint to recreate
also DMs and posting on others posts, especially YouTube “yo this fire, can ya’ll check out my music and let me know if it’s good?” under producers beats and artists songs
reaching out consistently to small artists, producers, A&Rs, music podcasts and whatever else you can think that’s music related with an email or place to DM, to collaborate or have a “coffee chat” so you can also fish off their small fan base or gain knowledge from someone in the industry, and eventually, well hopefully, linking with a bigger artists (hopefully for a free feature or an affordable price) to keep that momentum going
paying for promo packages/campaigns
consistently posting some type of content surrounding the music whether it’s snippets, creation, random content with the music as the background, and just spamming that s*** on tiktok tbh. I did that for a week and got 30 followers and 5k likes, so the conversion rate is a lil low but that’s why you keep churning out more

where is this coming from I havent noticed that trend at all
music always wins

yea I didn’t get that one, the visual aspect is really just because that’s a strong promotional element today
but the music always wins

not true at all.
there’s a black dude in Germany on tiktok rn who’s been spamming the same song snippet since October in different forms of content. dresses normally, no jewelry, just him in front of the camera doing s***, sometimes in low quality phone camera video
and he’s ran up his followers to 150k and buddy looks like Travis Hunter. Not even a uniquely talented singer, he just wrote a really good song for the snippet to catch mad attention
Tiktok actually values you looking more amateur

soundcloud is still the place underground artists post music, its still the heart of discovering talent, its definitely seen better days but its not completely dead at all
i think its true that the fastest way to gain buzz is with visuals, like actual music videos not just a visualizer. but its not the only way, collaboration is also a great step to take
You look for Westside Gunn at a WWE show and rap for him on the spot. Works all the time.
honestly the best music still stands out in the underground … skai che osama nett etc are all deserving of their success outside of image / marketing
have a marketing plan for everything you drop and be active on social media. decide who you want to be and really be that. be collaborative and form good relationships
