Stop caring about how others may view you and start moving/thinking/living for yourself.

That’s why no matter how nutty Ye is, I gotta give him his flowers for always being true to himself and saying how he really feel.

Think for a second about how you would feel if you found out someone you cared about was watering themselves down for your sake. Wouldn't that make you feel s***ty?

The way I see it, if I'm not being an authentic version of myself when I meet someone, I'm not really meeting them.

  • Jul 17, 2022

That's a tough question. First things first is there is no real authentic version of you, because over time youre just gonna change whether you want it or not. Interests, hobbies, friends, tastes, etc never stay the same. So dont worry about chasing an authenthic version of yourself too much, because you change.

The way I see it is being yourself means going with your gut, what you enjoy, what you feel comfortable with, etc. When I don't know what I prefer I just explore till something resonates with me. And if something stops resonating with me then I switch to another thing.

The main obstacle to all this is fear about being perceived a certain way. "If I do X, people will think y". You just have teach yourself to stop caring about perceptions because 1)most people aren't even paying attention to you 2) if someone does notice you and judges you for something, so what? Some rando thought something about me, oh well.

Being yourself will attract people who f*** with you on a deeper level than watering yourself down. I can imagine being nervous about scaring people away with your real self but I'd see it like ripping off a band-aid, might hurt a little but overall positive. Plus if they actually f*** with you then you'll develop a stronger bond.

you have to embrace the fact that not everyone is going to like you and that is completely ok

i think you reveal more about yourself the time you spend with people. cant expect to be 100% pure around people who you dont know too well. long as you're not trying to present yourself as something you're not to try and impress others. Also your never going to be exactly the same in different context etc family vs work vs friends vs strangers etc you probably have different sides of yourself which you show that are all legit

Some incredibly pieces of informative, wise, and knowledgeable responses in here. KTT fam ain't no dummies.

I think it's why we have so much love for our favourite artists it's their radical and persistent pursuit to be fearless in their craft.

I can't answer your question, but through real-life experience and maturity i'm getting closer to it..atleast I'm beginning in believing so.

You speak your truth at all times and don't care what others think but who does that? Everyone wears a mask even the 'truth tellers'. Also, being your authentic self will get you in trouble in almost any work environment.

I agree with telling the truth, and keeping 100% integrity in how you carry yourself.

However, with that being said what's your stand on white lies to defuse or descalate any unnecessary drama, or stress?

Hope things you are good with you brother too always been one of my favourite posters in the KTTverse.

White lies may lead to temporary convenience, but long term the truth is always almost the best. There are probably exceptions people can raise, but we should really strive not to lie, you’re distorting your brain and reality each time you lie. I can’t imagine being on my deathbed and knowing that I lived a dishonest life. Plus, you’ll never be able to connect with people in any real sense, as you devalue your words (and subsequently yourself) each time you lie. I know compulsive liars and when I speak to them, it’s like they’re not there as I can’t know if they’re being honest with themselves let alone me.

Hope you’re good too bro, enjoying your threads and the shambles that ensues

what if its embarrassing to tell the truth tho

  • Jul 17, 2022

Know yourself -> Accept yourself -> Love yourself

Your relationship with yourself is more important than any other relationship you can have as its also the basis for all of them, so you have to love, accept and be true to yourself as you are, that's not to say you can't fix your health or show more of your personality through your physical changes (at some point seeking to change yourself physically to be "better" is an endless battle but that's different), and of course being yourself should never be to the honest detriment of others

Being the most authentic version of yourself is a reflection of you knowing, accepting and loving yourself

    Well then you have to think;
Why is it embarrassing? Maybe you should strive to change it if it’s embarrassing
Or, just embrace the embarrassment because it’s still reality

In all likelihood, it’s not embarrassing you’re probably overthinking about what others think.

If it is truly embarrassing, then change your actions so you don’t have to lie, rather than becoming a shell of yourself and continuing to do things you’re embarrassed/ashamed of and then disconnecting from reality by lying to others. That’s where true growth lies, give it a go and it’ll change your life.
