Either one, preferably over longer periods of time.

Not an immediate solution to lack of motivation but I like to build routines that I have to follow, meaning that I see certain actions as simply things I must do. For example, I’m just back from my run in the rain even though I was super tired because it’s part of my routine to run on a thursday.

I have no idea beyond that though lmao.

thats a good starting point though, routine building has a direct correlation with personal satisfaction bc you feel as though you're doing what you need to

To expand on this research has shown that people with perceived high levels of discipline are not actually any more disciplined than the average person they just don't put themselves in positions that require large amounts of discipline.

In other words they make positive habits easy and negative habits hard. It's also known as designing your environment. Or chaining habits so that positive ones flow into other positive ones.

How long does it take for you to build a routine that's to some degree second nature?

Covid messed with a lot of my routines but generally I’ll form a pretty solid routine after about four weeks. It helps if I use an app or something that records how I’m doing so that I have some accountability.

    The time will pass regardless.

Lets say it takes 6 weeks and in 6 weeks you have a very well-oiled morning routine that makes you calm and at peace and ready to start every day. Or lets say you do nothing and in 6 weeks you're still wondering how long it might take.

    Discipline > Motivation

Motivation can give you a extra push or kick but first you gotta commit to something.
